Does not work great for dogs and Apple does not recommend it. Airtags rely on Apple devices like iPhones for detection, so your dog could be several blocks away before notification. You might know the general area, but won't be close enough to see your dog. If there are no iPhones nearby, you're out of luck.

Honestly I would still include it on a tag. I have tracked lost dogs before and having a general area and a timestamp would be incredible.

Hiding one of these on a bike would be great as well. Or even in your car. I live in a city where there is a good deal of property crime and theft so I'm trying to think of creative uses for these.

1) Keys, 2)Car, 3), bike (not sure where to hide it), 4) drone bag

Tile has some that have replaceable batteries. While most of the new ones (Sticker, Slim, Mate) and older are non-replaceable, some of the previous versions and the current Pro do have replaceable battery. Not saying they're better than Airtags, just pointing out they do make them with replaceable batteries.

I agree it's better than nothing and will let you know if your dog is alive and on the move over days. However, would be frustrating in the city if you're always an hour late to the spot your dog had been, or in the country where there is no wifi.

For bikes, there are numerous Airtag mounts. Under the seat, screwed to the water bottle stays, or even under the fork head. There's even one disguised as a reflector.
