It's free for a month if you sign up using Microsoft Edge. Did it just a few days ago. Just checked and the offer is still available.

I remember seeing that too. It doesn't have to be watched in edge, though, right?

I am doing the $15 first month youtube deal. Then I have to redeem a free month of fubo. Then I will need a new service so hopefully this is still free at the end of January... I am trying to get all of my school's bball games without having to pay much. Between espn+ some months and these streaming deals I will probably be out only about $45 for a whole season of games. Then baseball season I get someone with the tmobile free mlb.tv to sell me that cheap so I have all the sports I care about.... especially since bball coincides with football bowl games too. and the super bowl would be in there too. Meanwhile under directv's DEAL I would be spending about $900/yr for the package that doesn't even have espn in it. lol.

The EDGE2021 promo code doesn't seem to work anymore (and I'm on MS Edge browser).

It might not work if you already have a Philo account. But if you open a private window in Edge and go to philo.com the offer is displayed, at least for me when I checked just now.

And you don't need to watch in Edge. I've used Firefox and the app.

Did Philo ever implement a live guide function where the channel you were viewing keeps playing while you pull up the guide? I tried it a few years ago and it was super annoying having to go back and find the channel you were on every time you pulled up the guide.

I'm a Mac, the first time I have Edge Dev, I downloaded Edge. But at the philo.com site, I don't see any offer and the promo code EDGE2021 doesn't seem to work for me.

What I do for one month of free entertainment... Oh well.

If helps someone decide-

Some Pros
- Price/ch vs DTV, Cable (std Philo prices in link below. Grandfathered accounts may have lower price). Price has been more stable then yearly cable (w sports/locals) increases.
- ~72 ch (many traditional have a couple hundred but w your 'as seen on TV' or crap filler channels).
- Variety of ch for different preferences in household.
https://help.philo.com/channel-lineup/
- 'DVR' unlimited. Save everything you might like. Once saved then aired, search past commercials (DVR play is similar to recordings made on cable or dish DVRs).
- Multiple profiles for individual saves

Some Cons
- No sports (if so watch/record OTA is poss, etc)
- No locals (& No locast currently)
- Very limited news (cheddar, maybe others)
- Commercials in live TV, items aired prior for items not previously saved. Commercials in VOD
- No live TV while going through guide
- Must save shows/movie prior or sit through ads
- Not like flipping through channels on traditional service
- streaming resolution not 4k. I don't recall but probably 1080p or less

Notes
DVR - You basically ''save' every show you might like. As airs from that save date forward, will show as DVR where you can search past commercials. Some shows yet to air, you can watch VOD but have to sit through the ads.

GUIDE - Can set to watch live from current or from start. If saved, can skip ads. Best use is to save everything you might slightly be interested in, then look for it to appear in 'keep watching' once it airs, then watch & skip through ads.

Main menu is
Home Guide Top Saved Search Profile
Home- Keep watching, saved, trending, & diff categories
Guide- Channel grid. 1 favs ch group top, 1 all ch. Diff for ea profile
Top- Top shows per network. Can watch current/old/VOD eps or also save from here.
Saved- Your saved shows. Watch old/new/VOD , save etc
Search- self expl
Profile- swap or settings. If 1 profile, you don't need to select a profile at app start

It's a different format, like a mix of traditional cable & VOD.
Might take some time to get used to. Find shows to save in Top, within shows under related, in grid, or search. Save lots as no space limit (more like saving VOD streaming selections that will be added).

EDIT-Adds:
-iOS/Android search/skip is performed by a swipe motion where you swipe through frames left or right (instead of traditional press for 15 or 30). Works pretty well on relatively new devices.
- TV search (via Roku, ATV, etc) +shows frames to get past commercials. - Sometimes when searching live TV that is 'recording' the frames glitch and show as empty/black.
- If you cancel & resub in X months, not sure if your prior saved shows (older ones you missed whilst canceled) will show as DVR allowing commercial skip or if you have to queue them again after your new resub date. Eg canceled s4e3 missed. S4e4 new, but wait until s4e3 reruns to commercial skip. Not sure…

Their setup is indeed incredibly clunky and hard to navigate

Signed up for the free month using Edge. Already planning to cancel. No live view while browsing the guide is a deal killer, on top of having to press twice to choose a channel from the guide.

I'm beginning to miss my AT&T WatchTV service, which shut down today. I was paying $16 for 30 channels that I prefer to watch.

Looking for alternatives now. Will try out Philo for a month.
