Neweg hasn't really changed. It's just that their customer service hasn't evolved to suit all the new categories of items they sell. Customer service wise they're basically still a computer store. Amazon they are not

Started off when they were sold to a larger Chinese(?) company a couple of years ago. They went from a loca-ish/national brand specializing electronics and computer parts to a general e-commerce website that hosts questionable products from questionable third-party sellers.

Last I heard, if the seller was actually newegg though, you had a pretty good chance of getting a legit item as well as better customer service.

TL;DR - They've become some amalgamation of newegg/amazon/wish/aliexpress, in general have gone to crap, and so experiences have varied.

I remember reading about this when I bought mine.. I have 3 (one in each car) and I am very happy to report these things have had zero trouble in Jacksonville Florida sun for nearly 5 years.

The C1 with the v1 lithium battery had issues - but, Roav released an updated version with a v2 battery rated for higher temps. I've had the v2 going on 5 years now and have never had an issue. My only complaint with the camera is that the onboard video encoder over-sharpens the images, and the exposure settings are too high for night time driving; the over-exposed highlights cause a loss of detail in reflective objects like license plates.

Mine works fine. Battery is crap. It can't hold a charge long enough for the 1 min shutdown when car is turned off
