Intel NUC 11 i5-1135G7 Performance $450 barebones

Not a deal so much as in stock notice if anyone has been waiting for one. BH seems the cheapest.

Barebones, the ones with pre-installed ram or SSDs are way overpriced.

Check your Amex cards (everyday card cc in my case) for $25 cash back for purchases made through Adorama. It is $10 more but I I was able to price match.

Thunderbolt 4 is what makes this one a winner, IMO.

I realize GPUs are hard to get. But with some patience, you can get an enclosure (eGPU) + for a decent price, either used or via Amazon Warehouse sale for ~ $200. Add any GPU of your choice, and pair it with this tiny box via Thunderbolt, and you have a very tiny, flexible computer than can manage some decent games.
Some review did says it's TB4 but I think that's wrong.

I'm using an eGPU with my i3 NUC8 and you're right it's an awesome little game machine. I think TB3 gimps my 3060 Ti though. I think I'd get this if it was TB4.

Does anyone know - is the Iris graphics processor in 11th gen cpu enough to play Breath of the Wild on CEMU?
My 10th gen i5 GPU isn't able to keep with the frame rates to even usable level
Here's example w/ exact same i5 CPU w/ Iris XE :

Tb4 isn't faster than tb3. It just has more requirements.

It will play it. Not maxed out. Prob 720p at 30fps locked. BOTW is very demanding and you can mess with a lot of the graphical settings in CEMU.

Shoot, I could play at 540p at 25fps on my i5 8350u 😂

really? the iris xe is better than vega 10

Wrong Vega 😂

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Com...vsm1415260

Iris Xe can bench higher and get higher fps in games and emulators, becuase of the higher boost speed… BUT, intel throttle a bunch because they can't maintain the boost because of all the heat.

Ryzen chips don't boost as high and can stay cooler when gaming because they are physically smaller, even with double the cores. Ryzen video drivers are better though and Gaming with Intel Iris Xe can have glitches.

I'd go Ryzen if there was a choice between chips.

Thanks - I probably won't upgrade my i3 NUC 8 to this simply cause it works very well already. Although the onboard graphics are too slow even for when my kid plays Roblox on it, the Iris Xe seems about twice as fast as my Iris Plus 655.

If yours has the Iris Plus 655 like mine the Iris Xe is about double the FPS in most games.

If yours is the slower 620 it might be triple.

This is back at $449 at BH Photo today. Don't know how to un-expire a thread.

I just replaced my NUC 8 with this NUC 11 (purchased from Newegg's Ebay site for $450 w/ 8% Ebay Bucks).

Here's a comparison:

Firestrike demo
NUC 8 i3 = 1745 (Iris Plus 655)
NUC 11 i5 = 3744 (Iris Xe)

I also tried a couple games and framerate seems about double in most games.

I also tried Firestrike with my Amp Box eGPU 3060Ti
NUC 8 i3 = 10727
NUC 11 i5 = 15957

I'd guess that's due to the faster CPU. Ram is also 3200 vs 2400.

Note: Reviews say the NUC 11 comes with a wireless charging lid - this one did not. BH product image shows the lid, but since the model number is the same as the one I got from Newegg, the photo is probably a mistake.

Wow thanks for the benchmarks. That sounds like a fairly sizable improvement! I have been getting into Path of Exile, and it stutters a lot even on low detail. I think a Nuc11 is just what the doctor ordered. Thanks again Smilie

No problem! Only issue I had is it's hard to find any good RAM for it. All the DDR4 3200 seems to be CAS22. I bought a CAS16 G-Skill, but it defaults to CAS22 anyway since you can't run XMP on NUCs.

I might just return the expensive GSkill ram and use the GSkill DDR4 2400 that I was using on the NUC 8. At least that runs properly at CAS 16.

The NUC 8 i3 barebones goes for about $200 used on Ebay so I'm going to sell it. Smilie

Wait a minute - I need to buy new RAM for the Nuc 11? I can't just move the RAM from the Nuc 8 to the Nuc 11?

I believe you can use your existing ram, but the NUC 8 specs 2400 MHz and the NUC 11 specs 3200 MHz.

2400 ram should run fine in the 11 and speed difference is probably a few %.
