Try upgrading to the big front seat for $40-$80. Best old fashioned "business" class seat you can find in any narrow body domestic flight except some select planes that offer lie flat seats like the JetBlue A321s with lie flat business. But good luck getting those for $80 more.
I lived in Hawaii for many years, and left in 2012. $600 Round trip would have been a great deal to the east coast. Southwest did not fly to Hawaii then. If you're going from
California then I am Sure you can find some $100 one way fares. Anything In That range for a 2500+ miles flight is amazing.

The 2 free checked bags are great. Plenty of flights available out of HOU.
Don't need any fancy airlines to get to where I'm going.
The only thing that sucks right now is that they still are not serving alcohol on flights.
However, I was able to re-book Houston to Honolulu fares, getting better flight times, saving 2 hours on BOTH the departing and returing flights while saving $40/ticket (for later use ofc). Only possible with SWA policies. So I think it is worthwhile at least checking their "sale" prices.
