What does microwave-safe plastic mean? It will not melt, but still release toxins?

I think its actually a fairly rare quality in a plastic bowl, which is why I added it to title. Nordicware [amazon.com] is another plastic bowl (and a personal favorite of mine) that is microwave safe. As for toxins, I haven't heard anything outside the BPA stuff (which was clear plastics) - which I thought was mostly resolved? I do not keep up on this though. I guess I always thought if something were advertised as microwave safe, did not have BPA, and it is designed for food- I have used as directed. Dontknow

BPA has been removed from most plastics these days.
It's been replaced by similarly functional plastic chemical groups, with similar toxicities, but with a different name that's not BPA

Hence, BPA free & still makes your boy into a girl via endocrine disruptors.
(I'm not saying that it gives them female genitalia. I'm saying that it has androgen blocking effects, etc. It doesn't change your genes to change your assigned gender at birth. It changes the body effects) .

And if this product is $3.59/3 pack and has that "fairly rare quality" plastic... I hate to break it to you, it's not all that rare...

You can't avoid it, what do you think the walls and material of your microwave are made of?

1) They're made of metal, painted white with ceramic paint.

2) I use mason jars ($8-11/32oz 12 pack at walmart- depending if wide mouth or regular mouth, or ball or bootleg brand)
2a) I use pyrex (slickeals promos)

If you consider all the dollar store plastics, melamine dinnerware, etc... if you want Microwave safe, it is a quality you need to seek out. Unless you know where to go (for me, its Nordic Ware), you have to read the bottom of everything for its dishwasher and microwave safety. Even some ceramics are not microwave safe. Anyway, if you are lucky to find one you like the quality of, yay. Which to me, is 'fairly rare'. Not saying its PS5 rarelaugh out loud

Mason jars are cheaper, and safer. You can even get 16oz widemouth if you need, but it's almost the same price as 32oz
64oz (half gallon) is 6 for $11.70 i think- and has the same mouth as the 16/32oz widemouth.

You can even epoxy a handle to the side, and have trendy drinking mugs

I have plenty of safe glass things if I need or choose to heat in them. The point is convenience. For instance, I can see heating some nacho cheese in these (if you choose not to heat in the jar it came in). To heat in glass and transfer to another bowl makes 2 dishes, vs one. As for epoxy, I would wonder its safety with food or in the microwave. Anyway, to each their own. Smilie

Epoxy is used on the side of the mug, not anywhere near the liquid or the mouth. Just the side of the mug.

2) They have food safe epoxy. Just like they have tons of food safe silicone sealant
