** SOLD OUT **

Best Buy has it in stock!!! I just ordered one. I got the deal alert on the Best Buy app, but it didn't allow me to checkout using the app. I was able to purchase on a desktop browser…maybe a mobile browser would work as well.

I'm not saying this is a great price…actually it's the pandemic/inflation price, but…it's not in stock anywhere else. So, if you're like me and NEED a reputable all-in-one LASER COLOR printer with built-in wireless print server for less than $600, then this would meet your needs. I know there are other brands/models, but this is the best compromise of color accuracy for printing and scanning, least toner usage per print, print speed, etc etc for the price.

Note, the model number ends in W = wireless. If you find the same printer with model number ending in N = Networking then it's Ethernet only.

Sorry for the Ill-formatted post. Just trying to get it up for the SD community to get in on it.

Cheers!

I assume that means 3 X $74 for replacing all of the color toner cartridges?

😂 😂 😂 I don't know if that's how laser printers work, but I wouldn't put it past HP to figure a way to scam us…

Also, wonder if you can fax, scan, or print black only if one color of toner out… 🤔

Yes, you actually purchase each color as a separate toner cartridge, but the real benefit is 1,000+ print yield per cartridge.

I have personally witnessed laser printer savings from 20 years ago when my father had to print environmental engineering reports for property assessments. He had a Canon black and white all-in-one, and a separate Minolta for color.

My wife on the other hand needed inkjet for her graphic design assignments and we went through ink like nobody's business. That one hurt the wallet with the frequency of ink cartridge replacements.

At the end of the day know what your needs are and get the best within your short and long term budgets.

For duplex scanning you're looking at the next comparable model up, the M479fdw. That model is also out of stock and the price went up to $699.99 =(.

I have a M479DW (No fax) otherwise same as M479FDW. Toner is indeed costly and based on my research the cost per page to print in color is likely higher than some inkjets (YMMV). Also, it's not as good for "photo" printing as an inkjet may be. For special color prints (like photos or brochures or labels) you will need special laser paper which is harder to find (most stores only sell inkjet papers). For all prints the yellow toner gets used, I believe it is used for security reasons (micro dots), so I don't think you can print only in B&W without any yellow toner installed but haven't quite hit that limit yet to know for sure. Still on the "Starter" cartridges. I think that's on some modern inkjets as well (not sure).

This is a "large" and "heavy" printer. It takes a lot of space and was difficult to lift/move. Foot print isn't much larger than my officejet is/was but much taller and definitely heavier.

The printer is a bit noisy, when it warms up some fans kick in and some other noises, but once it's done it's silent. On standby it's quiet 99% of the time so not a distraction in a small office. It's still very fast, faster than any officejet inkjets I've owned in the past. I can talk on the phone while it's printing and it's not been an issue.

Only repetitive issue I've had is the HP Scan to PC function is unreliable. If you scan frequently know that the agent that runs on the client PC's tends to stop working if a PC goes to sleep and wakes up. Workaround is to have to stop the task and re-start it within the HP app ( I haven't found a commandline parameter method to start/stop so it's a manual effort). HP was less than helpful in solving this, blaming Windows, and suggested printing to a network share instead. They said the scan to pc feature is presently unsupported (even though advertised in the product features and printer in-warranty).

All above for 479 model, but scan-to-pc issue is same for multiple HP printers I've used. (I use Static IP and wired eth connection for my setup to simplify troubleshooting).

For duplex scanning needs, get one that has SPDF (Single Pass Document Feeder) or at least ARDF (Automatic Reversible Document Feeder). Many MFPs go on sale & posted here on SD once in a while.

Sale prices can vary, & I rarely see HP having good sales. Just as someone also mentioned in this thread, original toners are expensive for all printers about $80 each & you'll need 4. So, you'll also have to consider if generic toners are available for the printer you're buying.

As an example, I got the Ricoh M C250FWB in 11/2019 for $169 shipped. A set of generic toners is about the same price of the printer but better than $300 easy for a set of originals.

The oem toner is expensive, recently they also glued the chips to the toner so no easy way to move chips from toner to toner, even u can move the chip to generic toner and it will pop-up on your screen that the toner is low, I guess that's the way hp make extra $$$ when most people will use oem toner to avoid all problem, btw, I remember I got this printer at Costco for around $400
