FYI Refresh rate 60Hz
It doesn't. Motionflow will just give you that "glorious" soap opera effect. The reason for 120hz is important is because television is generally 30hz and movies are generally 24hz. While 60/30 is an even 2, however, 60/24 is 2.5, so it has to do a studder frame (see 3-2 pull down as an example of what that is like). With a 120hz, it is even split regardless if it is 24hz vs 30hz.

Edit: To be fair, some people are more bothered by the "studder" frame (extra b frame). Just like some are more bothered by the rainbow effect that DLP projectors put out.

I don't know why people don't put this on every TV deal

I know technically it's 60hz ,but how does Motionflow XR 240 Technology help with this?

Keep in mind the x80j is IPS (I think). Bad for some, but good for those that aren't going to be watching big this with it straight ahead.

Terrible contrast and picture for the money spent. Well worth it to spend a bit extra for the X85J.

This right here. Spend less on a Hisense or TCL or spend more and get 120Hz on the X85J.

Personally I think the sweet spot is the X85J, the 90 series gets too close to OLED pricing na the 80 is lacking features such as 120Hz.

If I'm not a gamer...would mainly use TV to stream TV and Netflix and watch alot of sports...would this TV suffice for that?

So this is a mediocre Sony TV? What's everyone's opinion on a mediocre Sony vs a mediocre Vizio?

The specs seem on par with this Vizio I picked up for 700$ at Walmart.

https://www.vizio.com/en/tv/v-series/V756-J03

It's also only 60hz and direct lit backlight. Vizio even supports Freesync.

When people talk about Sony TVs being so good I'm just not sure what the extra 300$ buys in this scenario.

Someone has already stated the refresh rate is 60 hz. So either you have to be happy with judder, or minimize judder and have soap opera effect.

From rtings.com:
"24p Judder
Judder-Free 24p
Yes

Judder-Free 24p via 60p
No

Judder-Free 24p via 60i
No

Judder-Free 24p via Native Apps
No

This TV removes 24p judder automatically from 24Hz sources. Unfortunately, it can't remove judder completely from 60p/60i sources or native apps, although setting Cinemotion to 'High' and Smoothness to max in the Motionflow menu can make judder less apparent."
