So this plays 4k bluray with software like cyberlink powerdvd? My asus external bluray writer software stopped update and won't recognize in windows 10 so I am thinking of picking this up
I have one of these and it was great while it lasted. Unfortunately, it died after only a year or two. It happened right in the middle of reading a Blu-Ray. It will still read DVDs but not Blu-Rays. I replaced it with the 16x version. Hopefully that one holds up better.

The main reason for users of this drive is to update to 4K-rip friendly firmware. Then rip their 4K UHD discs to play using Plex Server or Kodi.
The post just says "without software" so I'm a bit confused at what software is needed
