I have this model. Never used it the first year I had it, as I was waiting to get an Xbox Series X and to get the 2.1 board replacement. I was able to get it repaired December last year. If you fill in the form on the Yamaha website, someone from United Radio will reach out to you. I received an email in about 48 hours. It asked me to confirm a few things, then they sent me a UPS label to ship it back. I had the original box, so I shipped it in that. If you don't have materials/box, I think they can provide for you.

Shipping was to Salt Lake City, Utah. From Buffalo it took about six days out. The unit was repaired and sent back to me the same day it was delivered. United Radio asked me a few questions before doing the repair, but it was a quick and painless process. It was another six days shipping to get back to me. Everything worked/works great with my XSX. Zero issues on my end with it plugged into my 7.1 system and my Sony X900H. I mean, the sound might take a few seconds to kick in when I start up my XSX from sleep, but that's about the only glitch I've noticed (if it even is one... it's so minor I don't care).

I don't know that there's a way to tell from the serial number if it has been fixed already, but I do know that when you load it up, if you use the display to show the firmware version, if there is a * by it, the repair has been done. United Radio did flash the latest firmware on it before sending back. I had no settings to backup (still fresh from factory), but they would have backed up and restored settings, too, if needed.

It was about as smooth as you could hope, and considering I was about as far away from Utah as you could get during the holiday rush, shipping time was more than reasonable. If you're closer you'll probably get it turned around even quicker, I imagine.

I'm not an audiophile. I replaced an older Yamaha system I had that couldn't do 4K and it works pretty much the same. I don't need to tweak things, it just needs to work, and it does for me. I hear the app is far more useful in setting things up than the on screen menus (which are slow and clunky), but I haven't bothered syncing my unit to my network, because if I ever need to update the firmware, I'll just use a USB.

I also only paid $320 for it in 2020 (which included a 5% non-member fee). I'd do it again for sure, because the price was more than worth it. Are there better units? Probably. But for the price I got it at and for my use case, I think it's worth it. I'd probably find it worth it at $440, too, but again, there may be "better" units at that price now, I don't know.

Last note: if you do need to ship it in for the repair, take everything out (e.g., remote). Make sure to take off the wireless antenna, too. I didn't realize they came off, so they asked me about them and they took them off and shipped it back. I'm not sure why they thought I might not want them back, but.. whatever. They came back and all is well.

Warning for gamers who want the best: Just a reminder this unit's HDMI 2.1 bandwidth is capped at 24gbps, which is half of HDMI 2.1's full bandwidth.

The PS5 currently tops out at 32gbps when displaying 4k/120 HDR 4:2:2
The Xbox Series X tops out at 40gbps when displaying 4k/120 HDR 4:4:4

The Yamaha will not be able to handle the top bandwidth of these new consoles, each console will however downsample the chroma to 4:2:0 at 4k/120 HDR, so you will get 4k/120 in HDR with this box. Downsampling chroma is generally unnoticeable, but where it does make a difference is in background detail, where the downsampled video will have more blur and look softer. So if you have a fancy OLED and just bought a new console and want the best picture quality available, this receiver will be a weak link and you'll be getting a (slightly) worse picture than what the new systems are capable of outputting. Example of chroma subsampling from wikipedia: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wiki...orcomp.jpg

To get the best picture you should at least be looking for a 40gbps receiver.

That Sony in fact does not have 145W because it is 145W at 6 ohms.

You want to look at wattage at 8 ohms.
It is pathetic 67W at 8 ohms for that Sony STR-DH790.

Beware of manufacturers advertising wattage values at 6 ohms.
Run when you see that - it's a trap!

All receivers made through mid 2021 have upgraded chip with the fix. Another way to check is that the firmware has an asterisk (*) in it.

I don't have this exact model, but I love my Yamaha receivers. I do sometimes wish they had a few more "advanced user" features -- and there are a couple in "secret" menus, but not many -- but overall, they're excellent and user-friendly.

The one exception is the hideously complex remote control for them, but from what I've seen, that's kind of true of AVRs in general. Luckily, I only occasionally need to use it, and usually just to switch between music and movie profiles, which is trivial.

Costco is well known for selling "gray market" electronics. I'd assume they're the problematic boards unless explicitly stated.
If you're talking about the Omega case, that only means they buy from third-party suppliers when they can get them cheaper. High-volume resellers that want to stay on Costco's good side aren't selling them second-quality merchandise.

Plus, Costco has one of the most flexible return policies you'll find. Find out it's not an updated board, or just don't like it? Return it. Even if that weren't the case, Yamaha is standing behind the product and will fix it. Between those 2 companies, I wouldn't worry much.

• Costco Yamaha TSR-700 is a rebadged Yamaha RX-V6A, which is a $649.95 receiver.

• Costco Onkyo TX-NR6050 is a rebadged TX-NR6100, which is an $800 receiver. In other words, it costs 60% more than what Costco sells it as TX-NR6050.
Im confused that the listing has the tsr-700 as a 7.1 but the rx-v6a is listed as a 7.2

I do see 2 subwoofer outputs on the tsr-700 product image though. Does anyone know if it support 2 subs or not? I run two subs, so this is an important distinction for me.

Do you happen to have the link to request the repair. I have looked for it but couldn't find it.

I think I saw Yamaha's website has this receiver as a 7.2.

Currently have an Onkyo 636 and moving to a new home. Probably just going to be used for main living space pre-wired for speakers. Not planning on connecting the Series X to it, is it worth upgrading? I know the Onkyo is older, but I just cannot tell if the upgrade is significant for me to notice. Any suggestions?

The specs on the RX-V6A are identical to the TSR-700.
However the TX-NR6100, TSR-700, & RX-V6A are 100W but the TX-NR6050 is only 90W.
Is it one of those differences where you have to listen to them back to back to notice? Probably.
CNET thinks the Yamaha sounds better than the NR6100: https://www.cnet.com/tech/home-en...-receiver/

Both Yamahas have the 24Gbps HDMI limitation which could affect gaming. That's the only reason I could justify paying $60 more for worse sound. I've tried future proofing with my current Yamaha but now that I'm buying my first 4K TV I've learned it can't passthrough 4K like it was supposed to. I'm sure it'll be the similar with 40Gbps and 8K 60Hz.

What if TX-NR6050 has 100% identical components inside and the 10W difference is for marketing?
Is there a way to tell which is 90 W and which 100 W - when comparing Costco's $500 Onkyo TX-NR6050 to $800 Onkyo TX-NR6100? I don't think so. So 10 watts may be just an arbitrary distinction for marketing purposes because there is a $300 premium for TX-NR6100, a whopping 60% price jump.

Is Costco's Onkyo TX-NR6050 a 40gbps receiver!?

I've had my Denon x2300 for at least 5 years. Looking to replace it, will this be an upgrade or lateral move? TIA

Only one HDMI output seems like a deal breaker if you switch between a TV and a projector. Is there an obvious work around that I'm missing?

Will this be able to work with klipsch rp280fa, 450c and a klipsch 112sw. As the front tower and center need 150w will this be able to power it?
