Older imac this is 2017 model. Ram and ssd can be upgraded but difficult to do so I think

Screen is just 1080p. At $600 this isn't the best idea in the world but not the worst. It works with Monterrey but no telling how long support will last- I wouldn't expect the next os to be supported on it.

Just stating the obvious, but this can dual boot: MacOS and Windows. M1 cannot.

Yep, you're FAR better off just snagging an open box Macbook Air M1 and using a monitor if you want a Mac with a larger screen at this point. The M1 will spank the dual-core i5 that's in this Costco model.

Per Everymac, this model was discontinued last October.

Similar comments have already been posted in this thread, but I'll repeat it too.

This is an old, obsolete computer now, and a much, much better buy is to get an M1 Mac Mini from Costco. There is no comparison at all between the two.

I picked up an M1 Mac Mini for my wife a while back from Costco and paid $569. Great and pretty powerful machine for a very affordable price.

Bring your own keyboard, monitor and mouse and you will have a vastly superior and more modern computer than this old Intel Mac. Most people have extras lying around and if they don't you can pick them up for cheap.

Buying an Intel Mac in 2022 is like buying a horse for family trips in 1909, a year after the Ford Model T was released. And the cost of the horse is more than the car.

This is the lowest end model of this particular year. There is no external graphics and it's not a 4K monitor. It's fairly hard to remove the screen and the whole motherboard to upgrade the RAM or change a hard drive. The dual core is less cores than the typical four cores. If you buy this it you could update for probably only 2 more MacOs versions before it's considered obsolete. The M1 Mac Mini is a better buy all around for the money, especially considering how many more MacOs versions it will probably be allowed to upgrade to. If you were buying a used one of these on eBay you would probably pay somewhere around $300.

Buy her a M1 MacBook Air or M1 Mac Mini instead. Those were better options to begin with.

Yes, but won't match the Apple decor.

I'd suggest the best priced Apple is a Hackintosh! 😁
I've done this a few times, most recently exceeding the specs of the highest-specced iMac 27" for well under half the price (though I got lucky on a cheap used 5k monitor). And while I wish it were true, it's only ever been a good deal if you need very high performance, since Apple's margins increase as you go up the product chain. And even then it should be avoided unless you love tinkering with computers, because you're going to do a lot of that.

Nowadays my nice fake-iMac Hackintosh mostly runs Windows and Linux because it's less work, and I continue to use my increasingly-outdated 2015 iMac for macOS because it just works (albeit slowly).

And now that you can get an M1 Mac under $600, going Hackintosh makes a lot less sense unless you just happen to have macOS-compatible hardware in your current non-Mac computer.

That's a significant underestimate. The average used one has sold for $525 and the average new one (including open box listings) has sold for $700-$800 over the past few months.
