This trilogy is what episodes 7-9 could have, and should have, been. Great ideas, interesting growth for the heroes. Absolutely great villain!

So much better than- The Empire and Rebellion are back to where they were as if Return of the Jedi never happened! Death Star is back! Palpy is back! Young Luke Skywalker is back from a desert planet, but now he is a girl!
It was so simple. All they had to do was adapt the Thrawn trilogy. It had it all. Instead we got Jake Skywalker and the hobo Jedi space cow milker.
All of the Thrawn books are great (and I personally recommend the audiobooks of them). I'm in the final one now, "Thrawn Ascendancy". I believe there are three trilogies all together with the one in this deal being the first written but takes place later in life. In 2017, "Star Wars: Thrawn Trilogy" was released and it takes place in the middle of his life and then most recently "Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy" was released 2020-2021 and is his earlier years before the time of the Empire. (hopefully I got that all correct)

3 trilogies and a duology.
The earlier books - The Thrawn Trilogy (these books) and The Hand of Thrawn Duology are now part of the Legends cannon. They were set after the events of Return of the Jedi.

The new Thrawn and Ascendancy trilogies are part of the new canon and deal with Thrawn's life before coming to the Empire and rising through the Emperor's ranks (though there's some crossover with Sequel era characters.)

I must have missed reading Hand of Thrawn - will have to check it out. I know that the Thrawn Trilogy from 2017-2019 was average imo but I'm enjoying the most recent one.

I read these not long after they came out. An excellent trilogy that should've been Episodes 7-9.

And I'm STILL waiting for Disney to release the unmangled versions of the original trilogy. Oh well, at least we have the despecialized versions.

As much as I love those books they'd be a bit harder to adapt given the age of the actors. Having said that— anything would have been better than the crap we ended up with.

Rumor has it that Heir to the Empire will be the first Star Wars film for Disney+

https://geekositymag.com/heir-to-...wars-film/

Not sure how much stock to put in it, but cast Sebastian Stan as Luke, and go from there.

I would avoid the Hand of Thrawn books. They're really bad in comparison to the original Thrawn trilogy.

1,000,000 times better than what Disney put out for 7,8,9. It isn't even close. Thrawn is an awesome bad guy and Luke got real character growth after Jedi. You got to see real Jedi in action.
