The solution to the fingerprint issue is to add your fingerprint a bunch of times and it works much better. I added my thumbprint 4 times and now it works well

Trying to make sense to why Google Fi can offer $500 discount on a Samsung phone, but only $200 off a device made by Google.

Welcome to Google. The strategy is made by someone who has a Harvard degree and sure enough I don't understand either

What you're saying doesn't make sense. Youre saying google is trying to take marketshare from Samsung, but Samsung's in the hardware business, google's in the hardware and cell service business. If google sells a Samsung smartphone on Fi, then Samsung smartphone marketshare increases, but no increase at all in Google hardware marketshare. googles cell service marketshare increases but Samsung doesn't compete as a cell service provider.

From your other reply, you might be arguing for something that doesn't apply. Your Samsung-iPhone example is Samsung offering a big credit to trade in an iPhone and buy a Samsung phone whereas Googles offering a deep discount on the Samsung phone it's selling. It's not offering a big credit to trade a Samsung and buy a pixel.

Since this^ is all conjecture anyway…

Technically Google is also in the software aspect of the mobile phone business…so they do benefit regardless of whether you get the Samsung or the Pixel since they're both running their OS at heart.

Be careful with the sharp retorts. The whole point of the post you originally replied to was that Google Fi is right now offering a great deal on Samsung phones - https://slickdeals.net/f/15718471-new-google-fi-customers-128gb-samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-700-s22-500-s22-300-4-mth-service-port-in-req?v=1&src=SiteSearch

Your mind is a tangled mess. When has Google sold a Samsung phone on Fi? NEVER.

Fi always sells Google-branded phones. The phone could have been made by Samsung, but they'll make sure to remove everything that has Samsung in it (e.g. Knox, UI, etc) because they want the user to have the "Google experience" so the user will never buy a Samsung phone.

This is also why phone manufacturer never sells a "Pure Android" phone without anything on top. They want the phone experience to be unique to their brand to create loyalty. Any premium discounts will always come from a different manufacturer because they represent a new loyalty-- iPhone to Samsung, Samsung to Google, etc.

Do you have any idea what you're talking about? You can buy a samsung galaxy directly from google fi. They didn't do anything with the software, it's still One UI. Google didn't remove anything.

You seem to be confusing google phones with google fi as a phone service.

My pixel 6 has a horrible time with the fingerprint reader. Have 4 scans of my thumb and it only works like 30% of the time

This discount upsets me after paying nearly full price directly FROM GOOGLE (not a carrier) but I love my Pixel 6 and I don't have any issues with the fingerprint reader except for the long scan time. But this seems like a truly first world problem to me. An extra 300ms for my phone to unlock? Do we have nothing else to complain about?

Can you elaborate more on the issues people are having? The sample size is small, but my wife and I have had our 6 pro since release and we like it
The fingerprint reader seems to be the biggest issue I have seen people complain online about. Another temporary issues have been the camera and Google photos after updates. Comparing prices, I saw better value with the S22 (from the Google Fi offer) having the 3x zoom camera compared to the non-pro Pixel 6 and better fingerprint reader and face unlock out of the box.

I had an S20. On paper Samsung seems to be better, but my user experience with Samsung has always been poor. Even after removing all the bloatware

Hopefully I'm not too spoiled with the Pixel experience and can live with the Samsung's UI. I plan to install the gcam mod just in case.

My best guess is that the Pixel 6 is cheaper.

Wished they would offer a discount or credit for existing Fi users. I wouldn't mind upgrading to a Pixel 6 or 6 Pro and then pass my Pixel 5 on to someone else in the family.

Agreed. Going from a Pix 5 to a Pix 6 pro - the fingerprint reader on the glass was no good for me. Some people think it's great, but try the reader on the 5 then tell me that. I gave it an honest try for months with every possible suggestion and workaround. There's no comparison. I went back to a 5 and sold my 6.
I've had every google phone since they were called Nexus until the Pixel 6 pro. I lasted exactly 11 days with it before it was shipped back. Still rocking the Pixel 5, which works amazing. If the Pixel 7 is anything like the 6, I will be moving away and into something else. I will sure miss pure android though.

I feel like my s22 is just like my P5 android experience after I added nova launcher and pixel icon pack. pretty much same size too.

That's because they're trying to take Samsung's market share, so they care more that a new customer was a Samsung user than, for example, someone who used Tracphone.
Taking Samsung's market share by selling Samsung's extra cheap??
