Tons of people still play Rocket League. There is no other game like it. It's not like other esports (shooters) where new FPS games come out and steal the fan base. The developers are working on a new engine right now.
This last week they came out with a fun game mode where you dont use the ball but throw/hit/block other cars into spikes/lava in a battle royal.
Overall, the core game of car soccer is still popular and totally unique. No other game is more like a real sport where you are in control of just your car and you need to read the direction of the ball and make contact at the correct speed and angle to direct it where you want it to go. You need to learn positioning and spacing and rotation. Many people spend hours in free play just practicing hitting the ball around the field.
You don't level up gear or abilities. The pro players all use the starter car, and all the arenas are the same. You only level up your own skill and ability. The skill ceiling is absurdly high.
I don't think rocket league will go away anytime soon. Millions of people play every day.

Yep! What this guy said. I have been playing Rocket League for years and don't plan on stopping any time soon. Player base is still massive and it is one of the more challenging games to fine-tune your skills.
I used to get a lot of "tm8 uninstall" type messages

Yeah, like other competitive games, it can get pretty toxic, especially at the mid levels like plat/diamond, where people start to think they are good but aren't.
Sorry that happened. Being the best/only true sports video game, folks do get pretty passionate as well.

Not spending $60 a year, just for this game…for us.
$30-$40 maybe.
Yeah, there are other bonuses to plus, but nothing we use as we are not heavy gamers or play often.
