Extend the reach of your Wi-Fi network while eliminating dead zones using the RE205 AC750 Dual-Band Wireless Range Extender from TP-Link. This range extender supports the 802.11ac Wi-Fi network standard and operates on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies supporting data transfer rates of up to 750 Mbps. Installing the RE205 has been greatly simplified, thanks to the built-in Intelligent Signal light, which lights up blue when you have a good connection to the existing Wi-Fi network. In addition to wireless connectivity, this range extender can also be configured as an access point using the built-in Fast Ethernet port. Once your network is set up, you can take advantage of a variety of advanced network management tools through the TP-Link Tether app available for iOS- and Android-based mobile devices.

Good deal, ordered 2.
Yes, mesh is better. Yes, there might be better extenders out there, but I think this is as good as it gets for the sub $10 price+tax.

Does anyone know if this supports TP-Link's OneMesh feature (via some software update)?

Only the hardware V2 supports OneMesh. It is not clear regarding the hardware version for this item being sold.

I'm more worry about the quality. Most wifi extender would die quicker than wifi router.

Even if it's V2, OneMesh is barely usable. I used to have a OneMesh setup with AC1900 router and two AC1200 extenders, can only get at most half of full 300M speed. Besides the signal is not impressive. Better look for real Mesh system.

This extender can be used for some IoT devices, such as smart switch/camera/doorbell/garage opener. In many cases those devices works better with 2.4G Wifi.

Suitable for Oculus Quest 2 Airlink / Virtual Desktop?

I can't connect my gaming computer directly to my router at home for Virtual Desktop. Would this be suitable to connect directly via ethernet to my desktop for streaming to the device? Or would the 750 mbps speed limit be too limiting.

So, coincidentally I used it for this exact scenario. It works fine, but its absolutely got to be wired into the AP. It's all about line of sight and not having much packet loss. The throughput is non-circumstantial. I switched to a mesh network and it actually reduced my headset frame times, so I now use this old assed tech to outperform my wifi6 mesh network on quest 2 virtual desktop, but it sucks for anything else I ever tried including extending my wifi network.

Just to save you some troubleshooting i had to do, check the channels and traffic in your area. Tuning that made a big difference for me. The way I came to this conclusion was using it very late at like 4am the performance was way better when no one around was using wifi. Once I isolated a less busy channel for the wifi it performed more consistently during the day. Also strangely I had a problem naming it wifinetwork2, and my quest would jump back and forth, but once I named it quest2network and wired it in and made sure the quest was the only device on that network, it worked surprisingly well. for $7 I definitely recommend finding out.

edit: I reread your post and I wanted to come back to say no, everything must be wired. Computer wired into AP, this extender wired into AP, the only thing that can be wireless is the Quest or it will perform very poorly
