In the SMKW product description it was stated specifically "D2 tool steel." I have never seen in any knife description where the D in "D2" stands for "dyed", care to share an example? Perhaps in some no-name brand from China where they made a false claim on the blade steel, but KA-BAR? I don't think so.
All of the Ka-Bar Dozer versions use AUS-8A SS that is a decent steel. Just don't overpay for what Ka-Bar was.
Made in Asia, if you don't need the removable clip, the same knife is $20.52 on Amazon[amazon.com]. If you have to have the clip and can use different colors, they are $22 to $25 on Amazon.

The one for $20 isn't the same model that has the D2 steel. This one is for $40
Would be decent if it wasn't for the minimum $4 on shipping. You can get these without the D2 for $20. Still not bad, but so many other good options for $30 or less.
.
It is $36 normal. Nevertheless, since they don't mention the difference in hardness, the 'D' in the D2 stands for dyed and believe it is simply dyed AUS-8A SS that all Dozer versions have. Just know there is surface dye and total metal dye that you will find out when you scratch the blade. From the shiny edge and wording, I am thinking this one is surface dyed that you can do to any of them.
If you like it, that is cool. But, you are not going to get a high quality new knife in this price range. I have a Ka-Bar Mark II made by Union Cutlery (that became Ka-Bar) that is an excellent knife. I don't know if the OP is from the more recent purchase of Ek Commando Knife Company that Ka-Bar rebranded or not. For $20 or so, it is a decent knife if that is what you like.
This is a good knife. Even with the $4 shipping there is good value here. I own this exact version and it is a solid performer. I tend to gravitate towards knives that are less expensive but from reliable manufacturers and/or designers. The color combo might seem a little weird but that just makes it stand out in the knife drawer.
D2 steel over AUS-8 is a good bump up in performance.

So I just ordered this knife with free shipping. Not sure if it was a fluke or there was some special I didn't notice but when entering my shipping info there was a "$0.00 fed ex option". I selected it before I typed my address but the charge remained zero all though checkout
Edit: looks like it is a memorial day sale. Says free shipping on most orders

I see that they have the free fedex shipping now. Already have a Ka Bar Dozier in Blaze Orange, but I like that deal they have on the Boker Plus Cataclyst[smkw.com].

D2 is superior to Aus 8. Harder metal, better edge retention, hence the difference in price.

A different vendor did a comparison video on this knife where they used it for 30-days. Might be worth a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm2X71I

edit: and I think the previous poster may have been confusing "die" with "dye".
