This GPU is fantastic and is only $63 more than the FE version. RTX 3070 and RX 6800 are the performance per watt champs of this generation.

As noted, if you need the backplate you would have to get the Ultra version. However in a sandwich style ITX case, a lack of a backplate actually gives the GPU some more breathing room (like in my Meshilicious).

Not sure what everyone else is specifically referring to, but I feel like the 3070 doesn't offer $100 worth over the 3060 Ti. With the 3060 ti you actually have something that gives comparable performance to an RTX 2080 super. I prefer the 3080 or the 3060 ti cost to performance.

The 40XX series is maybe coming mid summer and it'll be 4080s and 4070s on a debut, a 4060 won't even be announced until like November or for sale until early 2023. I am looking forward to it tho but waiting longer might also let crypto get back up from it's crash, ETH is coming up again which might ruin things
