To be fair, I applied to the previous Venture card (forgot the name). Got the $500 bonus then closed the account.
Cap 1 algorithm sucks. They deny people with good profile. They need someone who can carry balance and pay interest
No.
You can pretty commonly get 3-5x earnings on those categories with various cards.
The key to maximizing value (beyond doing as many SUBs as you can) is being willing to use more than one card for different categories.
Or maybe the algorithm is especially good and rejects people who get bonuses and then never pay interest or even use the card beyond what they need to do to get the bonus. You know... like most slickdealers.
doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of getting one of these cards? You don't get the benefits with the no fee variants.
Once you get the sign-up bonus, many think it's not worth paying the annual fee just for the (relatively) paltry ongoing benefits.
Others ARE worth keeping.
It's YMMV depending on the person and the card.

I 100% plan to use the Venture X benefits for many years

Ok, but this actual thread is about the much-less-useful regular Venture card- which is a great example of one not really worth keeping after year 1 given the annual fee.

Show me a no annual fee card with a ~$650 bonus... I'll wait.
[a NON-business card with that bonus!]
I don't think you will "wait"...
I would strongly recommend Venture X with the higher fee with the travel credit offer if you plan to travel anywhere in next year or so to offset the cost of the increase in fee. Plus the Venture X comes with tons of benefit which the regular Venture doesn't
