How does the "credit on hotels" work? I travel a few times a year but am usually staying at Airbnb type places. Do they qualify? Would I need to use the Cap1 site to book?
Yes, you have to book through the Cap1 travel portal. I suppose they *might* have non-hotel places. Generally, I think the portal prices are going to be higher, so you need to be prepared to price-match. I've looked at it, but haven't booked anything thru the portal yet.

Is it only hotels that you can use it on or can you use it on flights as well? When I've tried to book anything through the portal before it was more expensive and price matching sounds like a pain.

You should be able to use it on flights and rental cars as well. Be aware that booking flights might be problematic in the event of delays or cancellations. You can't deal directly with the airline. I also saw that cars were quite a bit more expensive because you can't use any other promo codes. The rates were more than double my corporate rates.

Just for kicks, I tried doing a quick search for rooms in southern California and Phoenix, AZ. I did not see any private rentals there. Only hotels and motels.

Yeah, this type of thing is one thing that makes me question the value of the Venture X for me. I get that you get a $300 credit annually but it's not simple to get the $300 value out of it.
I'm not the most experienced flyer and I made the mistake of using C1 site to book flights on Breeze to New Orleans earlier this year. I wanted to use up the last C1 miles I had. I'd never flown Breeze before and only later figured out that C1 doesn't have the same options that Breeze has on their site so I ended up paying a little more for crapier seats with no wifi access. Glad it was only a 2hr flight.

I canceled this card a little over a year. Don't have any other Capital One CC. Would I be eligible for this promotion?

Probably not if it was just a year ago but I have another C1 card that I also got a $750k bonus on. It's a business card though.

IIRC, it has to be 48 months since your last SUB. Although I've heard that you can get separate SUBs for the Venture and Venture X. I haven't done that yet because I never pass the pre-approval test for the regular Venture. (800+ credit score and 30K CL on VX).

I've had this card for nearly three months with the promo and requested a credit increase in app...$200 is all it gave me. What a joke.

3 months is pretty short. What was your original CL?

$2000, which was also a joke when compared to my other cards. Just annoying that I'm getting pretty close each month.

Yeah, that seems pretty low. I'm guessing it might be due to your credit rating or you may have too many other cards. The last several times I tried the Cap 1 preapproval tool, it only offered me secured cards, even though I already had the Venture X with a 30K limit.

If you don't mind the extra inquiry, it might be worth applying for the VX. I seem to recall it had a minimum 10k or 20k CL, but I forget where I heard that. There is a dedicated preapproval tool for VX, but you'll have to google it because I don't have the link.

I'll probably keep this one for a bit before considering the X. I have a pretty high credit score so it definitely wasn't that. I just need to learn how to use the promo rewards now.
