When you go in person to Costco to redeem the voucher, that's when you need your Visa to have on file with them to enroll for auto-renewal?
Where I am, they scan all items. Even if they scan random items like you claim, you still go through one line for all customers which takes away all time savings. Not saying Scan and Go is bad, just not implemented right. Certainly not as "glorious" enough for me as it is for you.

Haha thank you very much. It's my OCDness of things and making sure my SDers get all the correct answers for deals pertaining to Costco. Been there three years and pushed through the chaos of pandemic+warehouse craziness (toilet paper+sanitizer+PPE+water+canned goods mayhem, etc). I did give in my two weeks notice beginning of the month. Three years there. I think if we had better management team, I would have stayed. Employees were all burnt out, call-outs causing those who still come in to feel more stressed due to lack of staffing.. Too many dropping like flies.
Lots of respect for people working supermarkets and warehouse clubs during the pandemic. Retail work is hard and thankless enough but those places must have been particularly crazy stressful during that time. Good luck on whatever you do afterwards!
