Q & A:
What is MINA?

A lightweight blockchain that remains around 22kb even as it scales

What are zkApps?

Privacy preserving decentralized applications

What role does the MINA token play in the Mina blockchain?

It's used for transaction fees, block rewards, and purchasing proofs in the Snarketplace.
Crypto held on Coinbase is considered an asset of the company and is not owned by the user. Less than two weeks ago the CEO said, essentially, "if we go bankrupt, you don't get your crypto back".

https://nypost.com/2022/05/11/coi...-bankrupt/

This is pertinent because Crypto has largely tanked, and so has Coinbase stock, which is down 82% off it's high.
Their fees are also ludicrous.
It's true that most people buying crypto now are not doing so for illegal purposes, but not that many people are making money. 40% of people who have ever bought crypto are currently in the red.

https://www.fxstreet.com/cryptocu...2205111451

It's also true that huge percentage of the market is explicitly speculative investing at best, and scams or fraud at worst.

Most people investing in this BS are in the red.
Anyone who purchased bitcoin prior to Fall-Winter 2020 is in the green. Anyone who bought during the 2017 run up has nearly doubled their investment and had a chance to sell for 3-4x during 2021.

You don't have to support crypto but saying it's BS because people who bought the top have lost money os ignorant and logically inept. Mainstream media outlets recommended buying Netflix at $600+ in January 2022. Is Netflix BS? Is listening to the news BS? Those people are down 80% in 6mo. Losing money investing is in no way unique to crypto assets.

I did this once, got approximately $1 USD each of three different shitcoins.

Then at tax time coinbase wanted me to claim $6 of income for the trash, and it wasn't even worth $3 any more.

A scam, just like every crypto. Perfect for?
1. Buying something illegal online. What's your poison? Drugs? Guns? Kiddie porn?
2. Scamming some other sucker who gets into the pyramid scheme later than you.

A solution looking for a problem? No. A scam looking for a sucker.
Anonymously purchasing items for illegal purposes? Yep, sounds like untraceable paper money.

Paper money has the backing of the government and people of a nation. Cryptocurrency has nothing of the sort. Cryptocurrency is also not anonymous, essentially by definition, because of the public ledger. Efforts can be made to hide the buyer and seller, but those efforts have been pierced many times before. My dollar bill doesn't keep track of every transaction it went through, but your cryptocurrency does.

All crypto gets its value from the fact that some people will convert it into real money. Nobody is going to say, "Well, I know that Terra Classic is now worth $0.0001368 on the exchanges, but I don't care about that. It was .06 for a burger a month ago, so it's .06 for a burger today." The value is ONLY what people will take for the currency. Even if the dollar crashes, I at least can pay my taxes and debts in those same dollars.

You'll have to list this as crypto income on your taxes. That will knock you out of the free/cheap tier if you use TurboTax or H&R Block. Just an FYI.

Right now you only have to declare crypto sales on your taxes (transfer of crypto to USD).

Okay true. If you sell this, even if it's a few bucks, you'll have to declare it (and, frustratingly, will need to upgrade to premium on those two tax services. Incidentally I recommend FreeTaxUSA instead, for this reason)

If you have done any of the learn and earn now is the time! Learn low, sell high.
Ditto. It's too bad Madoff died. I'd cash out and invest it with him. Sure, they're both Ponzi schemes, but he didn't speed up the end of life on Earth.

Read: major sarcasm.
