The idea of "future proofing" is a misnomer and misrepresentation of the premise. I think "forward compatibility" better suits that idea.

Not bad read speed, my Samsung 2TB 980 Pro rates at 7,000.
My only question is Adata reliability.

I paid $212 for this back in March on an Amazon Lightning deal and it's worked great in my PS5 so far. That's a really good price for one of these if you're looking to upgrade.

I've only had experience with their RAM, which performed well back in the day. This does include a 5 year warranty. Mine going into a PS5, so it won't get used as much as I would if it was in a PC. Reviews are great on it too.

I haven't paid attention to component prices during pandemic or even before that, frankly. Are prices expected to drop significantly (more than $40) in the next half year as the world opens back up? How much are prices going to drop due to normal market forces over the next year (regardless of pandemic)?

Based on what I found i think it's TLC, speeds are the same as the S70 which is listed as TLC. I think it's just a different heatsink.

I'm in for one for my PS5, great price for 2tb at these speeds

Pictures show the heatsink, though it isn't very substantial. It's the very thin white/silver part that says ADATA.

I plan on using it with the sabrent PS5 heatsink cover

If you don't get a heat sink for your nvme drive for your PS5, you can always leave the expansion Bay cover off, so it cools better.
But this also means leaving the side panel off, and most people prefer their PS5 looking aesthetic.
I prefer everything of look like the movie Brazil in my house, so I leave the side panels off on my PS5.
If you do this, the PS5 also cool better.
Edit: I just talked to some people on Discord and they said that the side panels are part of the cooling. Taking them off May decrease the temperature of the CPU, but other parts won't get the air flow they need where the air it's supposed to be directed. They said that in order for it to cool better, you would have to also put a fan on the system when the side panels are removed.

I have had good luck with adata products. The one time I had an nvme fail I was able to get a replacement from adata. Honestly the rma process was not straight forward but once I figured out the process they replaced it very quickly no questions asked.

adata has multiple firmwares that they use with the same hardware. i don't know if they did anything to make this drive more PS5 friendly (maybe reduced heat output by lowering some performance?). or maybe it's just marketing BS. the physically identical cousin of this drive (gammix S70) is insanely fast. i'd probably roll the dice on this if i needed a fast SSD for my desktop.
