I've been browsing FB marketplace and Craigslist for trailers and to find anything decent under $1k in my area is tough (residential building has been insane the past 2 years) admittedly I'd want something that can handle a higher payload but this is still a good deal for most uses.

The mesh is also available and I can't really tell the difference from the pictures but here is the link :

I have the harbor freight $399 trailer that needed to put together. Fine quality and do not rust, yet. I use it as a boat trailer so it take a lot more abuse than yours probably lol. I tow it with my Jeep Wrangler with no problem. Will try to tow it with my grand caravan tomorrow to see if it's good.
Agree. The HF 1700 lbs one is great quality Chassis. I've been eyeing it at my local ATL Perimeter HF where they have it propped on the wall for years. It was a great buy for around $400 and I didn't mind the additional expenditure of $400-$500 buying new tires, and metal tubing to create a frame around it and even sketched a design to build the frame - I've some of the cheap HF welders etc. - and can weld a bit. But it would take a long time to actually build it - as cutting metal to precision is not easy unless you have a laser cutter and I didn't want to rely on my welding when driving 60-70 mph on the highway. The other reason I like my Caravan is it allows me to take all 4 sides off completely and use it just like the HF bare chassis and that's an advantage when you want to haul 16ft timber up to 1500lbs. The caravan is also very lightweight - but do agree the HF chassis is the best for the ones < $1000 and offers the best paint job and rust protection and even if you spend $500 customizing - it is well worth it - you just have to have the time and patience to customize it.

I got 99(8) problems and a utility trailer aint one.

Hilarity aside, these rust like crazy, especially if you live anywhere near a coastline or in Florida. You will be shocked to find there might already be surface rust when you first buy it.

The only way to get around it is to buy a very expensive aluminum trailer. You'll want to hide a GPS tracker on it, get it fully registered, put some silly stickers on it to help police easily identify it, etc.. they're that sought after.

If you can cover this completely with good drainage below, you can avoid rapid rust coverage. If you keep ontop of the rust, you can prolong it by years. Another thing people do with these super cheap trailers is change out the wheels but that cost some $$$.

Just know the realities of these. They're using ultra cheap metal.

I picked up one from Lowes 9 years ago or so for $599 if I recall. Amazing how much the price of some things has gone up.

My recommendation is if you are going to spend the money, the one they sell at tractor supply with the bigger wheels is a better purchase.
I actually picked one up less than five years ago at Lowes for around that. I could sell it today used for what I paid for it haha

We see these for sale used here in the Midwest all the time. They're always rusted unless it was never used and stored indoors. The paint is crap and the fenders rust so quickly. My advice buy a better quality trailer if you really see yourself using it enough or try renting

These trailers are ok for light homeowner use if they are stored properly. If not, they will rust in no time, mesh floor is crap, axle will fail if used often at high speeds.

The problem with these small trailers and tires are that the maximum speed for them is 55MPH. If you plan on going faster, get high temp grease put in ASAP and pray.

I actually just ordered the $549, 1700+ pound HF trailer as the store sent me a 25% off please come back coupon - NO EXCLUSIONS.

And, they asked if I wanted to open a HF credit card which they allowed me to stack for an additional 10% off, so I got the trailer delivered for around $400 after taxes.

1000x this. The bearings on this small axle will blow out constantly

My father in law in a warm desert area bought one about 10-15 years ago. Cost him about $500 and he still has it. Doesn't use it much since he got his truck but I haven't noticed it rusting. It is a cheap trailer but it does the job!

Folks in my neighborhood just leave these in their front yards to share with other folk. I don't know why anyone would ever pay for one. If you need one, just head down the road until you find one, hitch it up and be on your way. I find it is easier if you wait until night time.

Looks like it has 13 inch (1 inch bigger than Lowes) not sure if it's worth the extra $200!

Some men would pay anything for that.

Check facebook market place. You can typically get some barely used trailers with some light rust for pretty cheap.

I just bought a heavy duty 5x10 single axle with good boards, just a little rusty for $1000 and cost me $35 to swap the title and get a new plate. Takes about a $45 gallon of paint and a day to grind/sand down and paint and you have a like new trailer.
