Groupon [groupon.com] is offering select 12-Month Sam's Club Membership Package w/ $25 discount on 1st In-Club purchase of $25+ for $25 (valid for New Sam's Club Members only.) So this deal is basically a free 12-month membership as long as you buy $25+ worth of items on your first in-club visit.

Note, offer valid for new Sam's Club Members only; not valid for membership renewals, for those with a current membership or those who were Sam's Club members less than 6 months prior to January 11, 2022. This deal ends September 12, 2022.

Fine print:

The Instant Savings offer for $25 off $25 or more will come off of qualifying in-club purchases on one transaction within first 60 days of membership.
Offer must be redeemed in a club location on a register or on the Sam's Club app, through Scan & Go.

It's more of a bait than an act of desperation on their part. I never got the 25 back last time I bought a similar offer, don't think it was Groupon though. Their customer service is pathetic, and I finally gave up after chasing it for a while.

I had the opposite happen. Bought a membership with the pay $45, get $45 off purchase offer and used $25 back AmEx offer. $45 came off of my first purchase and I made $25. I get a new membership every year with these deals but this latest one was the best (for me)

Okay, to be more specific. I bought a couple of trash cans online, and joined the plus membership as well in the same order. Two weeks later, luckily, all of sudden, I was like, I thought I bought something from Sam's club, so I checked, it still showed "on the way". But then I checked the tracking information, it stopped at label created. So that I contacted online chat, someone told me not to worry, they would do their best to take care of me, in 72 hours. Three days later, nothing happened. I called them up, they told me the trash cans were out of stock, they cancelled my order, but wouldn't cancel my plus membership. I had to talk to the supervisor to cancel my plus membership. Simply the worst customer service!
