Because we want to upgrade, repair, and modify our devices as we see fit without the threat of lawsuits.
Because we want to buy replacement parts for our devices without jumping through hoops.
Because we want to repair our devices when they have trouble instead of being told by apple's "geniuses" that they need to be replaced.
I used to love apple. I learned my lesson. Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave.

Yes, that folder C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore - all bare drivers - meaning no installation files, but can be used in the device manager.

I played with the 16" touchscreen version in Costco last week. Very nice machine but $1000 laptops should be 120hz imho so I skipped it.

i personally dont care for touch.. but if it was i'd mention it.. and 120hz only matters for gaming, and this is not a gaming device, so imo, i prefer nicer screen (gamut, resolution, etc) vs hz
The LG gram 17 is relatively small compared to other 17" laptops. It's barely bigger than 15.6" laptops. I've used 15.6" laptops at Starbucks just fine so I expect the LG gram 17 will work just as well for that.
This is pretty much a 17" laptop with 15" laptop chassis dimension and 13" laptop weight. For working on multiple documents and spreadsheets while at hotels, conferences, etc, I think this is pretty great. I'm more inclined to go with the Costco deal though (for warranty and ease of return).

For comparison, the Gram 17 1065G7 (10th gen i7):

Single core: 722 pts
The new i5 roundly beat the older i7. It would be interesting to see a comparison with the new i7.
