What exactly is wrong with Windows 11 Home edition for the average consumer?
Because we aren't all iSheep who want to be locked into Apple's disposable products ecosystem.
Because we want to upgrade, repair, and modify our devices as we see fit without the threat of lawsuits.
Because we want to buy replacement parts for our devices without jumping through hoops.
Because we want to repair our devices when they have trouble instead of being told by apple's "geniuses" that they need to be replaced.

I used to love apple. I learned my lesson. Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave.

Should be able to. Product keys embedded in firmware are interchangeable between windows 10 and 11, drivers too. Grab c:\windows\system32\driverstore folder, download windows 10 with windows 10 media creation tool, boot from it, wipe all partitions, install it, use saved driver's to kill all bangs in the device manager.
Is there an easy way to save all the drivers from the original Win 11 install?

Yes, that folder C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore - all bare drivers - meaning no installation files, but can be used in the device manager.

some info [notebookcheck.net] basically at 15w, 1240p is likely better than 1260p since it's not used up to its potential.
No. They have the same power profile according to Intel (1260p [intel.com]), (1240p [intel.com])

Do you know someone at notebookcheck? Why promote false information?

Because a 17" screen is much more useful for work than the M1 Air.
silly question that I kind of already know the answer to..but when you take a 17" on a plane (economy seat) or at a cafe, doesn't the 17" become unwieldy? I agree it's amazing for home where you got the space. but away from home I wonder how it is esp when table surfaces can be so much smaller

NOT A TOUCH SCREEN just in case someone misses this detail.

I played with the 16" touchscreen version in Costco last week. Very nice machine but $1000 laptops should be 120hz imho so I skipped it.

i personally dont care for touch.. but if it was i'd mention it.. and 120hz only matters for gaming, and this is not a gaming device, so imo, i prefer nicer screen (gamut, resolution, etc) vs hz

I wouldn't want to use any laptop (including the 13" MBA) on airplane economy seats anyway. For that, I just use the 11" iPad (touchscreen controls only, no physical keyboard). Can't really use it for certain types of work but I don't find the environment comfortable/conducive for working anyway.

The LG gram 17 is relatively small compared to other 17" laptops. It's barely bigger than 15.6" laptops. I've used 15.6" laptops at Starbucks just fine so I expect the LG gram 17 will work just as well for that.

This is pretty much a 17" laptop with 15" laptop chassis dimension and 13" laptop weight. For working on multiple documents and spreadsheets while at hotels, conferences, etc, I think this is pretty great. I'm more inclined to go with the Costco deal though (for warranty and ease of return).

I always carry two laptops for redundancy. But, yeah, I'll freely admit that's just a hard limit there.

Good deal, thank you, bought this instead of the Costco i7
Can you post any sort of benchmarks once you receive it? It would be great to see the 1240P compared to the 1260P on identical machines; hopefully we can also get the results of the same test from someone with the Costco model.

Buydig's return policy looks like it has a restocking fee. Will Amazon PM Buydig? This looks tempting.

Last I checked, Win 11 (non-Pro) is the first OS that requires you to be signed in to a MS account to use your own computer. May not be a problem for the "average consumer", IDK.

You don't need to create an MS account to sign in. It fairly easy

Results of the Cinebench R23 for the Gram 17 1240P (12th gen i5):
Multi core: 4818 pts
Single core: 1187 pts

For comparison, the Gram 17 1065G7 (10th gen i7):
Multi core: 1479 pts
Single core: 722 pts

The new i5 roundly beat the older i7. It would be interesting to see a comparison with the new i7.
