If you're going to bother putting up a new ceiling fan, get one with a DC motor. Way quieter and most have more selections on speed control. Put a fanimation DC fan up last year and it basically makes no sound other than air noise when it's on high.

Looks like the Aire Drop is an AC motor. Can't really comment on the light. I didn't install the light on my Fanimation Covert. I don't think they are great if it's your primary light source though.

Mine had bad reviews on install as well but it wasn't terrible. Not the easiest fan I ever put up though. The worst part was jamming all the wiring and controller module in the small escutcheon above the drop rod ceiling mount. Definitely have to trim wires to length. Some people may have left them long which would be a giant pain in the ass. They come long in case you are using a longer drop rod.

I bought a couple of Fanimation "Aire Drop" fans but haven't put them up...I read bad reviews about installing and the dim lighting...thoughts?

DC motors are definitely a step up, but I don't agree that it matters all that much. Most conventional fans do not make any material amount of noise. And you're going to run it in one direction most of the time.
