TLDR; buy an FALD LED or FALD Mini LED when going above 80".

Be prepared to potentially have severe light bleed on an 82" or 85" edge-lit QLED.

I got an 82" Q70T and even had the panel replaced under warranty. It's bad enough that I am going to have to get a 85QN90A or 85QN90B this year.

They look good during bright scenes, with the lights on, or when the picture fills the whole screen. They look really bad when the scene is dark and/or the lights are off.

The Samsung tech basically said that they have to allow too much light from the edge to achieve the nits they need and that more often than not, you are going to get a poor panel by light bleed standards. Smaller QLEDS don't have to send the light as "far" into the panel is why there are usually less issues with them.
Come on 85" under $1k
Don't buy anything that isn't backlit with good local dimming, you will regret it. The only place a set like this makes sense is a sports bar, where black level and light bleed don't matter and everyone drinks too much to care.

Best buy selling for $1399.99 (Regular Price $1699.99) and you may have to buy additional warranty of your own , if want to compare against Costco price.

How is this compared to the Samsung Q8 series that Costco sell almost the same price?

This is why I passed on the 85" Q85B deal from earlier this week. After watching the rtings review the blooming and bleed was so bad it looked like a budget TV.

Here's the last FP deal where it was $1,1100 with 50+ score.
https://slickdeals.net/f/15829069-costco-samsung-82-class-q6dt-series-4k-uhd-qled-lcd-tv-1099-99

And here's the RTINGS [rtings.com] review:

7.3 out of 10
The Samsung Q60T is a decent TV for most uses. It's good for watching TV during the day since it gets bright and has decent reflection handling. Despite lacking local dimming, it's still decent for watching movies in dark rooms thanks to its outstanding contrast ratio and remarkable black uniformity. It has a low input lag, so gaming feels responsive, but its slow response time makes motion look blurry. It's also a bit lacking for HDR, as it doesn't get bright enough to make highlights pop in HDR content.
