Pretty decent deal, and thumbs up for ham posts! I have a couple of Baofeng radios, and the programming cables make it super easy.
CHIRP makes it so easy to program these. Very quickly you can program all the repeaters in your area.

Think of it this way: If there was an earthquake, do you expect your cell phone to work? Or the internet? Ham radios don't need anything special to talk to somebody.

Ham radio might not be super cool technology, but it's saved many lives and been used in emergencies for decades.

My Baofeng deal alert! 🤩

Great radios and good deal. Programming cable is a huge time saver.

Friendly reminder: don't transmit (Tx) without a license.

You and I have VERY different definitions of easy. laugh out loud

Seriously, I tried these around a decade ago.
Now maybe there is a place that better explains how to use these than what I could find back then. They are very nice little units...but there is a fairly steep learning curve.

Would this be good for airsoft play just for fun use? I'm not interested in getting a license.

What potential advantages could I see from getting these? For example I live in California and wonder if this would be useful in an emergency such as wildfire or earthquake aftermath. I've heard that getting a ham radio license can have advantages but never really looked into it.

In case of natural disaster that takes out internet and cell comms, these will be very useful. A Calif. megaquake absolutely will knock out some internet cables and cell towers.
You could use these to listen to emergency broadcasts and communicate with family. You could also serve your neighborhood community by acting as the local radio contact.
Now, yes, you need to get a license in order to be able to transmit, but that's easy.
And, in case of a real emergency that threatens lives, you can transmit without a license to call for help, but use this privilege only in a real emergency.

Just the ability to listen to ham radio in emergencies is a big step up. For this price, even if you don't get a license to transmit, I think it's worth it.

I was thinking of getting some of those for just this reason.
