I'm not saying A PENGUIN isn't a good deal, because it absolutely is. It's one of the best knives for the money — I currently own three. BUT I'm saying this isn't a slickdeal because I expect it's their everyday price. THEY aren't even advertising it as a sale, just announcing it's release. A slick deal is a price that is reduced from an everyday price. This is not that.
I'm not telling people that they SHOULDN'T pick this up if they are in the market for a great knife that provides tremendous value, BUT know that this will likely continue to be the price for a while.
I'm in the knife market daily man. I'm a collector of knives in the $50 - $600 range and I track their value because I occasionally buy and sell. These will NOT increase in price. Also I own a Dessert Warrior Elementum. They are already returning to normal price in the secondary market. The last few I saw up for sale, went for the original price after shipping about $70-75. And that's probably where they'll stay until a new batch is released.
You have enough rep to know that slick deals is for deals on products at a GREAT price OR for out-of-stock hard to find items. This is neither of those. It's a special release on a great knife. If you'd like to join one of the many knife communities and discuss knives and how awesome it is that this penguin is available at a fantastic price in a new steel, then we'd love to have you. Knife guys are a surprisingly welcoming bunch. I'm just trying to inform others (especially non-knife folk) that while this is a great and recommended knife. This price will remain for a while and buyers will continue to have the opportunity to buy this knife or it's variants for a long time to come.
The QSP penguin is a fantastic knife. And one I'd highly recommend to folks who are looking to get something much better than your average Walmart kershaw. That being said, this isn't really a slick deal. This is a new variant of the penguin, yes. And it will probably sell out because knife folks like to collect special editions, but this isn't really a special price.

Penguin Exclusive in S35VN for $65 isn't a deal? Have you lost your mind? Rarely will you find any knife for $65 with S35VN
To put this into perspective, Blade HQ has 3740 models they sell with S35VN, Out of those knives, only four of them (same model Kizer) have said steel and are under $65 and they are discontinued models they're trying to unload.
I really enjoy the knifecenter YouTube channel. The guy is knowledgeable and has a relaxing voice...he also looks like a teddy bear. But anyway, knivesplus has the m390 steel exclusive with Micarta handles that are not on sale for $69.99. I'd argue that's a better bang for your buck.

That's actually good for m390. Not a fan of denim but at that price you can wrap it in duck tape and dip it in duck sauce.

That is NOT what a slick deal is. You can see things full price or even over with an add-on and it can still be a "slick deal" if the item is hard to get. A lot of these knife exclusives can sell out very quickly. and the value of them can go up significantly as soon as they sell out. Last exclusive I posted was the Civivi Elementum Dessert Warrior. Sold out in under 30 minutes, lagged Blade HQ so bad it was hard to even get one, and same day the knife was selling x3 retail. These I wouldn't expect to go that high, but if they sell out, the price will likely go up in third party markets.
