Definitely interested since this + remote room sensors = cheaper than equivalent Ecobee or Nest system.
But don't want to swap everything out, and then get frustrated for days on end

check your local power company, lots have discounted devices... perhaps not free, but you can most likely get an Ecobee/Nest for this price.
hell, i'd even take the Amazon garbage over anything Wyze puts their name on.

Obviously every company isn't gonna be the same, just gotta read the fine print

every power company has levels, either a promo with a program where they can adjust at peak, electricity for AC and whatever for heat, or just a flat rebate. you can always opt out of the programs, i did this with ORU last time i bought an Ecobee for 20$, or you can just change the temp back after they adjust... they don't set it and you can't control anymore, like you're insinuating.
you obviously didn't read the promo terms well enough, so you got butthurt when they adjusted during peak.
side note "free" is in relation to dollars paid, which yeah, would still be 0$ even if they adjust... which by the way, saves you even more money. so the SD got even better!!!

NJ companies for example don't do the programs, which is where i got 4 Ecobees after my original purchase. from buddies accounts, since NY hate everything

"During hot summer days, the demand for electricity is especially high. This can put a strain on the electric grid. To help prevent possible power interruptions on these days and to keep the cost of energy low, O&R may activate the Smart Savers program.
By joining Smart Savers, you can help reduce energy use on the occasional extra-hot day. There is no effort required during these events and O&R will automatically adjust your thermostat temperature by no more than four degrees to help lower energy demand during peak hours.
Smart Savers is free to join, and in exchange for enrolling, you'll get $85 for each eligible thermostat you enroll. For every year you participate*, you will receive $25 at the end of the summer season.
*The $25 annual incentive is issued after the second summer of enrollment, and only when you participate in 80% of event hours."
