This impact wrench has an Auto shut off setting where you can tighten a lug nut without hammering on it. Then you can torque to spec after.

I got this last time and its amazing. That being said I would very careful with typical car lugnuts. They typically need to be torqued to 80-90 ft lbs, this will snap lugs easy.

You shouldn't ever use an impact to tighten lug nuts. You could barely snug them but the final tightening should be done by hand with a torque wrench. Some use torque sticks to limit torque of an impact to tighten lug nuts but I wouldn't trust that myself.

Exactly this, regardless of how many times you tell people they will still do it haha

Yep I got this impact and the auto feature on this does a great job stopping.

Just a reminder for those who don't have any Ryobi tools this does NOT come with a charger even though it comes with a battery. So you will need a charger or buy another tool that you may want to add into the Ryobi system that comes with a charger.

I bought this last time around and it's a beast. I had no idea it had this feature so i was switching to my 1/4" drive to put the lugs back on before torqueing.

What do you think - rusty nuts on a boat trailer - doable, or too much to ask?

It's probably gonna break it.. depends how badly its rusted..

I've had this a few weeks and used it a few times and in my opinion it's absolutely worth the full price. For being a very new tool, I'm really surprised that this is like the third or fourth time it's been discounted to this price. Main reason I mention that is because while I would recommend anyone invested in the Ryobi system to definitely get this tool if you could use an impact wrench but don't feel like you have to jump on it at this price today. If you don't have the money cause it will be back at this price again in a few weeks.

870 less lb-ft of torque. Not in the same class, or even close.
