It is way to big to work inside the wheel well but the Ridgid subcompact 3/8” goes up to 250 ft-lbs and is great for confined spaces. Have done caliper bracket bolts, wheel hub bolts, etc with the subcompact and it’s usually available for $99-ish.

I use the 1/4" nut driver ryobi to do lug nuts. It came in some sort of combo kit a while back. Even the little impact driver, meant for screws, will undo lug nuts unless they're inappropriately tight. The 1/4" does nearly 100 ft lbs with a fully charged 4ah battery.

This impact wrench has an Auto shut off setting where you can tighten a lug nut without hammering on it. Then you can torque to spec after.

I am speaking of quality. I own and like both Ryobi and DeWalt. But DeWalt is in a different league in quality. They both have their place. I purchase Ryobi for tools I don't use often, and DeWalt for those I use daily.

The dewalt is depending on location. This is shipped right to your door.

If one is already invested in Ryobi this is a no brainer.
Totally agree. If you are in the ecosystem, and don't use these tools daily, this is a great deal.

Do I need this? The most I do on my cars are break work. The typical pads, rotor, and caliber replacements. I've gotten by with all hand tools but have had my encounters with rusty and/or bald nuts that just couldn't be removed in which case I'd end up at the mechanic.

I've changed struts before and promised I'd never do it again lol .

For brakes? Probably not. But for $159 it makes things a heck of a lot easier. It should take off just about any lugs and has an auto mode so you don't spin them off and into oblivion.
Just did front struts this summer and powered through with a 3/8" impact and hand tools but this sure would have been better.
This impact is big, heavy, and powerful. It's a good match for larger vehicles and/or suspension work. Probably best as a complement to a smaller 1/2" that's fits in more places but if you're only going to buy one 1/2" Ryobi impact.... I'd get this one even if it's a bit unwieldy. It's got the most power of the bunch so far.

Those bolts are not that hard to remove. Use a long breaker bar and cheater bar.

Breaker bars have their place but in some situations an impact wrench can make all the difference. I used my Ridgid 1/2" impact wrench to remove the anode rod from my water heater that was stuck. A breaker bar didn't work and was in danger of moving the entire water heater.

Suspension bolts, Honda crankshaft bolts which have to come out for timing belt changes. As a retired guy I use this tool with care after applying 4-6 PB blast sprays and lightly tapping bolts with a hammer over a 24 hour period.

You gotta pull off wheels for brakes right? I have the 1/2" brushed (non HP) and it couldnt break my lugs loose on BMW lug bolts. Im gonna get this one...

Yep I got this impact and the auto feature on this does a great job stopping.

Just a reminder for those who don't have any Ryobi tools this does NOT come with a charger even though it comes with a battery. So you will need a charger or buy another tool that you may want to add into the Ryobi system that comes with a charger.
Yes, buy this one for 12$ and you're good to go. My first Ryobi line up is a Quite fan with a battery without charger too 😉

Picked this up and have been using it with my torque limiting extensions. I'd highly recommend picking up a set if you are the type that just wants to zip your lug nuts (or other higher applications, CV nuts), without damaging the stud/bolt/threads.

New Torque Test Channel video about torque sticks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVY0e5sdWx4

Quick summary is that battery powered impacts typically don't have enough time between impacts for the stick to absorb and release each subsequent impact, which can result in overtorquing.

Hey! I saw that too. I mean it wasn't much, but yes it can overtorque. I wonder if the results are different between brands.
