If it’s anything like the Flash Vest, it’s a mid-layer at best. Outer layer if it’s 50+ outside. They also tend to run small/short.

Both have 60 grams of synthetic insulation. The one used in the REI is a lower quality with supposedly (slightly) less warmth and performance. Both have DWR treatment for some water resistance.

The Atom has material on the sides that is not insulated designed for ventilation while active. Wind will cut through. If you’re not active and warming up your body you will feel the chill.

The Atom is firm fitting vs the REI which is a full cut.

For the price difference I’d go with the REI. But that’s just me. I personally could give a rats ass about name brands.

Great mid layer product if it fits. I bought it but it wasn't properly closing at my wrist so air would get through in winter. Had to return it

Nice find OP. It looks like it has 60g synthetic insulation, so it should be good for fall weather. I think this would work well on a hike, but not so much in winter weather.

Darn, ordered a Medium on reviews saying it ran larger. I'm an in betweener who is always between an M and L in this kind of stuff.

I have both. They're the same shit except no hood. Not very warm and not super breathable. I'd say atom is a hair smaller for the size. Neither is worth 200 bucks so get this for 50 bucks. Neither is water proof for more than 2 min of actual rain.

Short for sure. I tried one on in the store this weekend. Arms were good for me which is rare but the body was way too short.

Too bad the hoody is still full price. I'm in a windy area and that would keep the chill off my face and ears without having to wear other stuff

That hooded version just came out so don't look for any sale soon. I've tried on both options and the hooded version is slightly different and fit a little smaller. I'm 5'6" 150 and the hooded fit really well and seemed like the perfect all around cool weather jacket. So much so I'm probably just going to pay full price for it.
