For a surf, email, single task (office apps) don't need a newer processor....except maybe battery life? If I get 3-4 hours out of light use it serves my needs and I think the price/build ratio makes it a good choice. I have been looking for a few weeks at newer processor laptops and I think it would cost me $75-$100 more for an entry level where the build would be much less substantial.

The battery on these swells up and fail a lot. My battery was swollen to a huge size overnight and deformed the laptop keyboard and melted a bit of the plastic bottom cover a couple of weeks ago. The laptop was still working while connected to a Dell USB C dock.
Replacing it with a third party battery was quick and easy. Took me a couple of minutes after I found a small enough Philips screwdriver.
Could have started a fire though.

It should not go bad like that. In organizations various models are left on docking stations for years with little or no disconnecting from power, essentially used like desktops without incidents like that.
The 7390 and 7390 2-1 have a battery problem and Dell should have done a recall.

On the upside, with a new cheap third party battery, mine came back fine, keyboard and touch snapped back, just the back cover has melted a bit, the screws still fit. A casual observer would not notice.
My issue is that it could cause a fire in my place since I WFH and that Dell shirked a fix.

I didn't realize that the 2in1 is different from the non 2in1 in that there is no barrel power plug and in place, you get an additional usb-c. both of the usb-c on mine has the TB symbol!
Also come with fingerprint reader!
overall, it has a nice premium appearance! for $241, its a def bargain. Much much better than the WM one with the i5-1135G7 even if that one has a faster i5 cpu.
I ordered the i5/16/512 a couple hours ago
Wondering how it would compare to this entry level for about the same price:

Would mostly use it as travel laptop for web, vlc, and streaming

Also, no TB or DP over usb-c port for the lenovo, but you do get HDMI 2.0. So 4K60hz video are covered with both but dell 2in1 i believe has two TB usb-c so that's better.
The dell is still cheaper and have more ram and ssd space right out of the box so you don't need to upgrade anything at all. And that is a winner over the lenovo there by itself!

I paid $240 for Dell (so only $15 more for the Lenovo).
Is the cpu a lot better or slightly. Would it be noticeable in day-to-day usage?
Agree with everything else you said about the Dell

the lenovo is not really only $20 more. It's a lot more expensive if you going to count the cost for additional 8GB ram ($20) and also additional 256GB ($20) of space upgrade you need to buy to compare it directly with the dell. So really the lenovo is about $60+ more expensive at least.
And you still get an inferior TN nontouch screen that you can't upgrade by any easy mean.
As a bonus, the 2in1 also come with a nice high power 90W usb-c charger that can be used to charge your phone. The lenovo power brick can't do that .. lol

If yours or anyone that reads this and has a 7390 and the battery starts to bulge at the left keyboard/touch pad remove the battery quickly. Mine expanded very fast, I had a gap in the chassis of 1/3-1/2 an inch where the front light is. I thought the laptop was shot. Works fine though. GL.

As consumers outside of warranty not equiped to fight a multi-billion dollar corporation in court, we could only do what we can to prevent this from happening in the future. Your experience is valuable in helping us coming up with ways to avoid it. I think setting a charging limit and also not letting it charge overnight would help with this problem.
And with the previous problem of the power chip failing, we should also set a limit on the CPU to not let it run at its full power.
There is no question in my mind this model of laptop is plagued with issues. (I suspect that has something to do with why they are selling it this cheaply, where as 7490 [dellrefurbished.com] with less RAM and storage is $50 more without a touch screen) But then again laptop of a similar price and spec (11th gen i3 or better, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage) does not come in this form factor or price or build quality. I think if we can somehow avoid these problems by changing some settings it is still an excellent deal.

Update: no pen for me, anyways, still a killer deal.
