TIL:

'Sillage' is the French word for the perfume trail left in the air when someone leaves the room, similar to the 'wake' of a boat or the track of waves that it makes behind it as it moves through the water...
I didn't realize cologne cost this much. I'm more of the $7 bottle of night swept from rite aid. Or, sometimes I get fancy with the bath and body works body sprays.
Big positive is the low/no risk of it being fake.

I got this and have been using it for a couple of weeks. It is nice enough that I'll not return it but I don't think it is leagues ahead of alternatives that cost 1/3rd as much. I did some research and Tom Ford, despite the premium pricing, contains zero real Oud. It is "synthetic oud" which is 100X cheaper than real one and is as close to real Oud scent as synthetic banana flavor is close to a real banana.

Very, very few fragrances actually use real oud (due to the cost), and the ones that do will use such a miniscule amount just to say they have real oud in it.

Despite oud wood seeming a bit premium in price, this is actually very cheap by tom ford standards. Ones like Lost Cherry sell for $390 for the same size bottle

Most perfumes are reformulated after a few years of being launched, with cheaper ingredients, manufacturers changed and not for the better. Same batch numbers will smell alike. Go to a site like basenotes.net, search for a replica / clone of an expensive perfume u want and based on other people's reviews, u can save a great deal.of money. A lot of Arab perfumers make similar scents with slight variations but mostly same base notes, that are cheaper with great sillage and longevity. Just be aware that even the replicas are reformulated after a while. Fyi, the most expensive perfume oils are usually of Arab origin.
