What's the best way to play this? Buy it from a credit card that offers cash back? Then use the Mastercard to pay rent? 😒 🤔

I pay utilities or buy Costco gift cards. Too bad my insurance does not accept partial payments.

Or if you have credit card with 5% cash back from office supply.

Sorry for the dumb question but if I have a balance of $2 left on one of these and I go to McDonald's (or any store) and the order is $3, will they charge $2 to this and then $1 to another payment option automatically or would the card get declined?

Side note but the reviews are really awful.

Never try MaDonald's. But, in Walmart, you can tell cashier the exactly amount of the card balance, he can only charge that amount. Then, use other card to pay the rest.

Buy with a credit card that offers bonus points on office supply purchases, then use the gift card wherever credit cards are accepted (making sure you aren't going to get charged a fee that negates the bonus points). For example, I have a Chase Ink Cash that gives 5x points on office supply purchases. (Could also do the CF PP promo as noted above.) I can get these and use them to buy groceries instead of using my Fidelity visa 2% CB card, so I end up getting an extra 3%.

Poor reviews stated lots of people have trouble to activate the card. Walk away to avoid headaches.

Buying a Mastercard at a Staples store is OK, they are already activated and more or less safe. Buying one online is a bad idea: good chance for fraud, and as said earlier, pain to activate. Just buy a bunch next time they are feeless in the store.
