If you don't ski, snowboard or snow bike, you can stop reading now.
Not a deal. There is such a thing as a deal for Epic. It's a stupid way that they force you a buy ticket in advance.
Right now you can still get Day-pass, with blackout days that will be $74/day for adult. $34/day for kids. Prices will go up on Nov 20. (It's already gone up silents from months ago). They also claim that tickets at window will be limited. Even if you can get one, expected to pay $150/day. So getting a day-pass now is good insurance if you intend to go have fun for a couple of days.
Don't be greedy though. Many people end up buying too many days than they can actually use. And Vail certainly counts on that for profit. If you need extra days, perhaps adding another day will not be too expensive. Or find a friend with pass to get Ski-with-a-friend benefits.
If you are a beginner, hell, go to less crowed resorts, all you need is a bunny hill anyways. No need to pay for the whole mountain. Some resorts even have a beginner package that costs a lot less. e.g. Boreal. Oh, if you catch a ski-bus, they also have much cheaper group ticket to bundle you up.
