This model is known for being something of a bait-and-switch. There's at least two different versions, from different countries with different internals and even connector layouts. So I wouldn't put too much faith in how it was reviewed initially.

Solid unit. Good price. Tier-A on the cultist list.

I bit based on solid reviews, but I'm considering canceling since the higher rated Corsair RM850 has dropped to this price before, so I'm thinking I'll wait for that to happen again since I'm already waiting on a deal for an rtx 3080 anyway.

A tier per cultists, but user reviews are only 4.2 eggs. Hmm, tough choice. :/

Keep in mind, they are in A tier, but not the top "gold" color. This model is blue on that list: Quiet operation, but missing some features of the best A tier units. Probably lower gauge wires, lower performance.

Sux for me as I bought the 750W for $2 more from Newegg the other week.

On a positive note, the unit seems nice thus far. Silent in no-fan mode and I can't hear the noise above my other fans when the system does draw more power.

I'm not stressing this PSU anyway. Using a 12700k and a 3070ti.

I got one at Microcenter. I don't know if it's the exact same model, but it's the same wattage and rating. And it wouldn't power on the MOBO. Exchanged for a Corsair and all was well. DOAs can happen with any brand of course but it turned me off to this unit.

Bought this for 95 in august, it died this month. I had to pay 20 to ship it into Thermaltake for RMA, and I suspect the unit I got from amazon was used, renewed, refurbed, etc.

They're both tier A... no reason to spend more on the Corsair

Been using this awesome unit to power my 5900x, 6900XT system since July. Got it for about this price on prime day.

Yes, but not all tier-A are equal. I believe the RM850 scores better in tests, but I would need to compare them side by side to confirm. There's also a lot more positive user feedback available on the Corsairs.

Edit: And my comment was on condition that the RM drops to the same $80 price

There is literally no way that was real. They most likely got sent a fraudulent return from Amazon. Some companies do have different manufacturers but they don't have different connectors like they do in that post lol.

My guess is someone swapped the labels and sent back an old unit

I meant there's a lot more feedback in general. I haven't seen much feedback on the Thermaltake, positive or negative. Based on that data, I would feel more comfortable with the Corsair, but I hope the Thermaltake is just as good

Unfortunately, it does happen in PSUs. Not saying in any way thats the case in this situation, but there is well documented instances where PSUs that were the testing units used superior components than the retail version.

Based on those photos, that second unit has enough red flags (dirt, markings, etc.) that it does look a little suspect.

I agree thats the case. Its not the case with this Thermaltake GF1 but there are some brands (EVGA does this) where it happens. But again, it doesn't happen like what is described in the forum post linked. That person is comparing two totally different PSUs and most likely got return scammed.
