Best TV for viewing angle, what matters?

I'm considering getting a new TV for our LR that has a better viewing angle than the current one. Off-angle viewing washes out, typical for TV's. Long story short, the TV that we currently use was previously a basement TV, as the TV we used to use for the LR (in a previous house) is an 82" Q80 and doesn't fit in the space.

I don't have the model # off the top of my head but I believe it's a lower tier Samsung, maybe a TU. I have other Samsung TV's (Q series) and know they are a step up from the TU, which honestly I probably got at Walmart.

I usually check out Rtings for reviews, but they can be really in depth on a lot of generally/practically irrelevant aspects. They do have viewing angle, but it's really subjective.

It matters because the TV I'm looking at (55" Samsung is the requirement, I like their UI) can vary in cost by several hundred $$, and if I don't need the top of the line model, it doesn't make sense to spend the additional $$.

QN55S95BDFXZA (top of the line OLED series) - $1450
QN55QN85BDFXZA - $1000
QN55Q80BDFXZA - $900
QN55Q7DAAFXZA - $800
QN55Q60BDFXZA - $700
UN55TU700DFXZA - $350 (for reference only)

We don't game or really do anything fancy. Watching TV or movies is it.

Which Type of TV Has the Best Viewing Angle?
OLED TVs are known for having extremely wide viewing angles when compared to other TVs currently on the market and are excellent for viewing in group settings with spread-out seating.

OLED TVs have an average viewing angle of around 70 degrees from the center, with the center meaning that you're directly in front of the screen. With an OLED TV, you won't notice any difference in colors or brightness at most viewing angles.

To compare, LED and QLED TVs have around a 20-40 degree viewing angle on average. Mini-LED and MicroLED TVs have better viewing angles than LED and QLED TVs, but still not as good as OLED TVs.

LED Good
QLED Good
OLED Excellent
Mini-LED Very Good
MicroLED Very GoodIf

The lighting in the room matters.

As far as the TV, there are some things that make a difference that can be hard to find in the specs:
Different types of LCD panels have different off angle performance
The brightness / contrast of the screen makes a difference as does the type of backlighting (edge lit, backlit, local dimming)
There are also differences in anti-reflective coatings on different screens.

On viewing angle, the question is are they just quoting the mfg specs or actually testing / reviewing off angle viewing.

TL;DR - If viewing angles are a concern, OLED is only choice. All OLEDs have great viewing angle, all LEDs do not.

Viewing angles were #1 on my list. In 2010, I bought an expensive LED, and was told I wouldn't notice the
change with viewing angle. I didn't notice any problem in the showroom as I moved side to side. Got it home and within minutes was dazzled by the colors and sharpness, but dismayed at the color shift moving just 2 feet side to side. Returned it for a plasma. Great viewing from any angle as long as I could see the screen . Fast forward 12 years, LEDs still have narrow viewing. while OLEDs have viewing angles close to that of the plasma TVs.( I think that plasma still hold a slight edge in viewing angle, but OLED has much better color as well as 4k.)

OLED is really the only answer for viewing angles. Nothing else compares. If the room is very bright though it won't be as bright as an LED so you have to balance that.
