Yes you can. Kids will give up because the action is too high.

Spin the extra 40 50 bucks and get a fender or something right now.

Honestly electric guitar is a lot easier to learn on than acoustic. Other than the fact that you have to buy an amp
This is not a good starter guitar. This is a toy. It does not stay in tune. The action is too high. Do not buy this for someone trying to learn. Buy this for a little child who wants a toy. It serves its purpose well as a toy.

I bought these in the electric and acoustic versions for my kids when they were 3 years old - I was hoping these were usable as a starter instrument. They aren't - at all.

If it offers a little additional confidence, I am a musician that plays out multiple times a week.
If you want to discourage your kids from learning to play, then buy this. I f you really want them to be interested, spend a little more. You don't need a fortune to get a good guitar. I have seen fender's here on SD sometimes at $100

How is this on the FP? I literally just searched "Guitar" on Amazon and found a dozen around this price. This looks more shill than slick.

This is the main thing. You can work around a lot of issues, but the action being high with poor strings will kill enjoyment (and fingers) of playing for beginners.

You can lower the action, but that might cost you the amount it would take to get a new one. Not sure if you could do it yourself without knowing what you are doing.

I posted one of these 38" guitar starter kits on SD for $27.99 on Amazon in August and don't even think it got 1 like.

Would one of the fenders that have been popping up in the 100 - 150 range be a better bet for a 4-6 YO? I tried to start in college but couldn't get my hands / fingers to do what they needed to do and eventually gave up. I wish someone would have tried to get me into it when I was younger or at least had the opportunity. I'd like to try and get my kids into it to see if it's something they enjoy.

The Fenders would do fine.

In my opinion you'd do better with a Yamaha JR1, JR2, FS series or APXT2. Yamaha has very high quality control and tolerance standards so they play very well straight out of the box.

If you want to pay a little more look at the Baby Taylor or the Little Martin LX1E.

Consider buying used. You'll find a lot of Facebook sales for these barely used.

My kids currently play a Yamaha APXT2 and a Baby Taylor with a preference for the Taylor, it's louder.

Just a casual look at the reviews shows this is trash. There's people that bought it as gifts or never play it saying it's great, and then dozens of photos showing it disintegrating after a day of use, or arriving broken.

For around $130 you can pick up a Yahama half-size classical guitar (model CGS102A) right now on Amazon--perfect for beginner 5-7 year olds. Go bigger (3/4 size) for older kids, but don't chince out on an instrument--if you are really wanting your kid to learn. Most importantly, always start the youngens on a classical--the nylon strings are easier to fret and won't hurt tiny fingers.

You can usually find dozens of second hand Yamahas on FB marketplace or Craigslist for around $100. Don't waste your money on this guitar
