Nice. Can't wait for AM5 motherboard prices to enter the reasonable realm.
how much more expensive is a decent am5 mb over a decent 1700 ddr5 mb?
this is almost $90 cheaper than an 13600k, 14th gen will be a new socket so 1700 is dead.
am5 getting support until 2024-25. im still not seeing how this is a good deal for someone building a ddr5 system.

I'm planning to build an am5 system next year for the avx512 support..

Agreed. But like until then....why would this be getting any thumbs up? You have to be the polar opposite of slick with the accompanying purchases needed to even use this cpu.

Some of you people take the AMD or Intel fanboy'ing to an entirely unproductive level lol.
not sure how this isnt a good deal, if you want to build a ddr5 system. and its not like all the mb are super expensive. you can find a deal on a mb easily around this time.

Eventually that "find a deal on a MB easily" has to leave the hypothetical and enter into actual surrounding reality. Assuming of course you do want a good MB and not just whatever model is getting discounted after all the popular youtube benchmark reviewers get done trashing it Wink

So what you're saying is if you see a good deal on a car you might want you shouldn't go for it because god damnit gas is so expensive, and don't get me started on what insurance costs!

You realize this is a fairly bad and completely oversimplified attempt at making an analogy there, right? I mean if the annual costs on gas and insurance were both and separately going to cost me roughly the same amount I was plunking down to buy the car itself? You dang straight I wouldn't be going for it lol . Especially if/when the alternative scenario option existed to buy a slightly better overall car for slightly more money, and which could essentially still end giving me the same'ish REAL WORLD PERFORMANCE (not to be confused with chasing paper gains or micro fraction'ish differences my human eye would realistically never actually notice) 99% of the time while still giving me to the option to run it on much more cost efficient "last gen gas" and under a half the price insurance plan.

Again, this CPU popping up on sale right now isn't actually a slick deal. It's basically day 1 of a market correction coming out of AMD following a very poorly received product launch, and one that likely will need to stay where it's at to stay competitive with the fact that pretty much every very influential review outlet on youtube, that the market moving army of newbie'ish builders out are going to accept/follow as gospel, are currently backing the 13600k as their recommendation buy choice. If anything this is more a newbie builder and/or impulse buyer trap then "deal" imo, and one that still isn't changing the actual bottomline reality that there is still nothing slick or cost-to-performance attractive about jumping in on a ddr5 build right now.

In fact this whole Black Friday has basically been a sham in that regard. Starting with every major retailer bumping up their price on the 136000k $20 immediately before releasing these "BLACK FRIDAY DEALS!!!" on their poorly selling AMD stock. With there being a fairly decent chance that all of of these new gen CPU actually end up seeing better overall build cost deals in the coming week and months, and when there is actually a decent deal to be found on a quality matching motherboard for those wanting to go the ddr5 route beyond the hypothetical one that guy basically telling people on the fence that it's time to jump (who's also is not even planning to build his own ddr machine until next year, mind you) is chiming in about.

This is actually only $65 less then what the 13600k was costing before the weekend price bump up that i'm guessing goes back down once the black friday focus of moving excess stock passes. Or maybe even lower if/when it sees an actual sale. But either or...it's a better processor. So yeah, of course it's going to come with a higher price tag, and priced relatively similar to same general jump one expects to make every year (especially if buying early on) going up in tier from the 5600x/i5-12400, ect ect.

Putting an overly aggressive amount of emphasis value in "future proofing" is more rooted in people buying into in a 'spend more" marketing gimmick then something that is actually sensible for the overwhelming large amount of consumer builders. Who typically aren't making their build costs investments in very late 2022 with an eye on potentially doing it all over again as soon as 1-2 years latter (at which time both sockets will then be "dead" as your put it). But i'm guessing beyond a need to apparently throw AMD and the platform some love here you already actually know that...hence why you are waiting the year instead of jumping in now to buy this yourself Wink

From my experience, thumbs up are typically used as an indication that a specific item is on sale for a good price, relative to history. It is taken in isolation of other companion products or ecosystems. While granted, a motherboard with an appropriate socket is one of the more linearly required purchases, it doesn't mean that this price for this processor is bad in isolation.

And frankly, just like in every other product category, there are products that people will want to buy regardless of how they stack up against competing brands. I'm still sitting on my i5 9600 in crippling indecision about what TF I want in a desktop but I'll give this a TU for being a relatively good price for the product. But I won't personally be buying one right now because I've never spent more than about $100 on a motherboard. Also because I really don't need to upgrade my desktop even though I really want to laugh out loud

That's the problem, ddr5 is so expensive. Lga 1700 gives you that option of doing ddr4. The 13600k blows the 7600x out of the water, not even a contest. No reason to get ddr5 unless you got an i9.
