Ok, so I figured either way I would personally use it. So I went ahead and bought and activated license. Here's my experience so far using my new lifetime account across 3 devices (Pixel 7 Pro - me; Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra - me; Pixel 7 - wife):

- Login is done by email/password, as you'd expect these days.
- I am unable to login with multiple devices at once. Basically, if the app is open on one device, you can't open it on another. And here's where it gets a little annoying...
- If you attempt to open the app on a device that has already been logged in, but it detects another currently open session, it'll entirely log you out. You need to log in on that device again.
- Downloading lessons for offline usage lasts 30 days. So you CAN use offline, but in practicality it won't help much with having multiple concurrent sessions going. I mean you could get creative and probably do some traffic sniffing and host-based traffic blocking from the device with the offline lessons saved, but that's totally not worth the hassle!
- Also in practicality, I don't think, at least for a single user as intended, the whole logging off thing will be an issue. If I'm using it on my phone and then decide to switch to using it on my tablet, I will have likely by then turned off the screen or taken the app off the foreground.
- I even tested as far as opening on my phone, switching apps (RS no longer foreground app), opening on tablet and it worked fine, then on phone switching back (recent apps, switch to last app) to RS, and then it booted me back to the login screen. Tablet session stayed active and logged in. Essentially same thing happened when I kept the app open as foreground app on device 1, and simply shut off the screen instead. It worked fine on device 2.
- (edit) While I think this last one is obvious, it saves progress via cloud, so obviously logging in on a different device will have the progress carried over.

********
TL;DR - CAN'T HAVE MORE THAN 1 ACTIVE SESSION AT A TIME. Thus not very practical for multi-user usage, unless you will be almost always using at different times AND studying different languages (or are okay with lesson plans progress getting janky and mixed if studying same language, it's basically just like @lucassdad speculated).
********

Even with these caveats, I'll probably just stick with 1 license. I just saved the random generated password for my RS account on my wife's password manager, so if it ever gets logged out she can easily log back in. We likely won't be studying the same language during a given timeframe, nor using the app at the same exact time, anyway. It says the sale is still good for a few days, so we'll see.

Hopefully this clarifies any thoughts or questions for people who had the same ideas of multi user usage as me hahaha 😵 💫
Use Code "LEARN10NOW" to bring price down to $119.20 for an even slicker deal.
Ah! If only I waited. I paid $179 earlier this year and found it (personally) worth it then. As a visual learner, I found this to be more helpful for me than other language learning apps (Duolingo, Memrise, and some others). Note that the "live" classes etc is an add-on and not included in the lifetime sub.

Question to anyone who already uses RS, I would appreciate your input. Would it be fairly easy for me to "share" the license with my wife (and only her)? Say for example, I start doing Korean lessons (which I'm already fluent, but at a very elementary level since I'm 2nd gen - but I would start at a more advanced level obviously), and then she wants to start from scratch. I have no idea how it works. Would I need to nuke progress / are there multiple or single "profiles" per language, etc?

And then would there be any potential issues with, say, accessing from one of my devices and then she does on hers at the same time? I'd assume it can't necessarily tell if it's being accessed from multiple devices since I would guess you'd be able to do some of it offline. But then again I'm thinking Rosetta Stone on CD ROM from the 90's hahaha.

I know that's a lot of questions, but I wanna make sure before I drop $120 on it, haha. Thanks!

EDIT: answered my own question on following page (pg 2)

Thanks I went in. As it's been around for over 20 years RS has more rep then Duolingo which I have been using.

Anyone used stackskills? Sounds terrible from what I've seen, certainly inexpensive, but aim thinking probably more worth 300$ to get a year of Coursera+.

Rosetta Stone may be worth the $$ alone tho.

My kids are in french immersion at school. My 7th grader has a real crap teacher this year and I'm concerned about her passing the AP test after we've come this far. Will this help her?

Edited to add: I've heard that conjugating verbs is what's killing their passing rate right now. Can she acquire some serious conjugation skills on rosetta stone?

Good question. My wife just asked me the same thing. one of the reviews states it is easy to switch between languages and begin where you left off.

No offense, but I think you might be a little overanxious at this point. If your kids are in immersion school during junior high, I think they will be fine on an AP exam six years from now. I had no prior language classes before high school, then studied French and Spanish concurrently during my four years there (5 times a week 50 minutes each period) and got 5 on each. No doubt I was more studious than your typical high schooler, but it was not impossible. The language exams were one of the easier AP exams I took. Ultimately, they will probably end up studying for the exam individually (using an AP-specific prep guide) unless the teacher preps for the test. I had to do independent study.

Also, in response to your question, the Rosetta Stone is different from a typical, in person language course. (I did some of the Portuguese lessons while in grad school before a trip to Brazil.) There is much less writing, probably for obvious reasons. At upper levels, it was helpful for technical vocabulary and slang though. I am not sure the grammar ever got particularly complicated (like really delving into the nuances of perfect tenses, or subjunctive moods, for example.)

Practically, the most useful thing I did to supplement classes was to sign up for a free "intercambio" (like a language exchange where you learn Spanish from a native speaker and you in exchange help them with English). There was a site called Italki when I was younger. I am sure there are similar sites if it is now defunct.

Bonne chance!

It looks like it's a license for one person. It may not allow different levels of the same language
