I wore a pair of similar Salomon's when I did a solo trek to Anapurna base camp. I used them in conjunction with low gaiters when needed. Much lighter and faster than using boots and kept feet dry through mild snow and most rain. My feet only got wet (as expected) traversing the glacier to the base camp. I wore two pairs of wool socks that day and my feet never got cold. I had brought my leather boots with me to Nepal but was glad I left them behind as the weight would have really slowed me down.

Long story short, waterproof trail runners are an awesome option 95% of the time. Light and maneuverable. With low gaiters, they will keep your foot dry in most conditions. For serious mountaineering, thick snow/rain, or carrying an expedition pack- get some boots.

If you want a good wide size gore tex shoe I recommend the new balance hierro 7 gore tex. And the 880 gore tex as well
