There are reasons why it's getting cheaper. I have one from the last frontpage deal. Not recommended.

Mine works like a charm. I would highly recommend anyone with wired CarPlay.

I personally use the Motorola Android Auto dongle, but noticed that my phone battery drains so fast with it. I got the Carlinkit and it worked fine with Carplay on my dads car

I have android auto one. Fine for music, for videos you will always get lag.

I use a Bluetooth 5.0 dongle plugged into the aux connector of my car if i want to use for video. Then no lag.

I have carlinkit 3.0 and noticed it doesn't work well in cold weather lol. It worked pretty good rest of the year.

same here. basically, set your expectation. some head-unit works better than the others. in my case (subaru):

- 82% of time, it works just fine. connects after like (on average) 30 seconds or so
- 14% of time it would not connect until rebooting it (use an usb extension cable with a switch, make sure you buy one that's capable of data transfer)
- 4% of time it connects but the head-unit crashes subsequently

I think I have the 3.0. Worked fine in my car specifically because I have remote start so by the time I get to the car and situated, the carlink had initialized and was ready. Worked great for music but there's definitely a lag when using something like Waze. A couple of times I almost missed turns so I stopped using it for that

I have the 2.0 version for my wife in her CX9, it was unusable in a 2019 but now in a 2022 CX9 it works pretty darn well. Yes, sometimes it lags and Waze is slow or freezes. Music is usually problem free. I got the Motorola one for my Android phone since 2.0 is only carplay. Motorola is a little finicky, sometimes doesn't connect to my Pixel 7 Pro. I was going to try this 4.0 since it does both but I read it's implementation of AA is pretty horrible.

Definitely read up on this device's implementation of AA, I read it's bad. Motorola implementation is much better, but I do get times where it won't connect, and sometimes it disconnects from my phone and then maybe 30 seconds later it reconnects. This could be a phone issue also, don't know.

I have the 3.0, it didn't work too well in my Subaru with an aftermarket Kenwood stereo, phone calls were pretty much garbled. Now that I have a Toyota Tacoma it works a lot better, Siri, and calls are significantly better. Every once in awhile Google Maps won't load and I have to power cycle the unit. The persistent issues are that 5% of the time I have to power cycle the carlinkit because it isn't being recognized by my head unit or the phone isn't connecting, and it takes about 1 minute to connect to the device. I'm also not experiencing anymore freezes than are expected with CarPlay, and fortunately they're becoming less frequent with software updates.
