I'd get this. I sent two kids off to college with Grams, and ones who aren't particularly kind to their hardware. They're practically bulletproof, extremely lightweight and the performance is outstanding. Combine that with the extended Costco warranty and you can't go wrong. Honestly, not sure what you'd need the extra performance for, aside from some heavier duty gaming.
After defending @contractcooker in an earlier reply, I'll respectfully disagree on this point - Even if you get better hardware, longer life, and a smoother experience with a Mac, and even if the cost were equivalent (which it typically isn't), it doesn't mean that a Mac is a better option for "most people."
The Mac would be better *except* for those who are not in the Apple ecosystem, or are just accustomed to Windows, or who own Windows software or games, or otherwise need it for work, or... probably most people 😅
That's the thing about the gram. It doesn't feel premium because it uses magnesium alloy to keep the weight down. It flexes like plastic but don't let that deceive you. It is as strong as any metal. So it depends on what matters to you. Lightweight even though it is perceived as a cheaper build quality but it's not at all or heavy aluminum with no flex.

Trying to find a nice lightweight laptop for my son for college. Was leaning towards this from BestBuy - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sams...Id=6501593. Is that Samsung worth the extra $450 for mostly school work, and occasional games? Appreciate any input/thoughts

I would get this one, especially with the Costco warranty. I have the non-touch version of this and love it (wish it had touch like this one).

Your son will like the LG laptop more than the Samsung one. I got my daughter a similar Samsung one a couple of years ago and she doesn't really like it. I just purchased this LG one for myself as this is an incredible deal.

Get an HP Elitebook. They're built semi rugged, made for corporate road warriors. They can also be upgraded with tons of RAM. Extended support from HP. Buy once and it will last through college.

Dual SSD, 2.51lb weight. Excellent deal! I have a non-touch version with 11th gen Intel CPU, with only one thunderbolt port. Jump on it!

the Samsung is not worth the extra, this LG is prob the best offer in this price and spec range. It's incredible.

Split the difference and go REAL light haha! https://www.costco.com/acer-swift...56371.html

This is a newly released laptop so not too much info out there. But the few reviews are very positive. Especially the screen. Speakers kind of stink is the biggest knock.
