Has full preouts for anyone needing this run to an external amp.
Bi amping is using 2 amplifiers (or 2 individual channels of amplification) for the same speaker (provided it has 2 sets of red and black binding posts). So rather than running ~70 watts to one set of posts and using a jumper to connect those posts to the other posts, spreading the wattage between 2 crossovers, one for lows and one for mids and highs, you would run ~70 watts to EACH set of binding posts, so each crossover gets 70 watts to fuel lows, and mids and highs. When using an AVR that can 'only' provide 30-100 watts to a speaker, biamping can provide needed headroom to the speaker so that it can handle all the dynamic highs and deep impactful lows at reference volumes without dipping or clipping or otherwise. I highly recommend biamping power-hungry towers (especially if they're low sensitivity)if you're only using an AVR to power them (and not a powerful external amp) assuming you have the extra amplification channels available and your AVR has the capability. Be careful not to confuse biamping with biwiring, which is almost always useless and a waste of money.

Great deal for someone wanting A4A, and I need A6A. Common Adorama listen to the hints here!

Fwiw, long time AV reviewer Andrew Robinson, who says he's a Yamaha fan, left off any newer Yamaha AVR's from his recommendation list due to bugs and issues. I didn't delve any deeper into his experiences as I have no interest in these Yahama's.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Yamaha's sound signature. But getting preouts under $1k is rare these days.

This is super valid, that said, bugs on these have been an issue up until their latest software update. It fixed many of the issues and added additional promised support which had been a bone of contention since these were released some time during 2020? I dont' know the exact time.

One thing you might want to consider about this if you're running a full 7.2 setup is that the front channels are bi-amped so it's not a true 7.2 system. For most people this will likely be a great receiver though and this is a great price.

How would it compare to the Onkyo TX-NR6050 from Costco in a dedicated home theater for movies? not sure if I need the pre outs

Is this as future proof as a receiver gets right now? I'm struggling to identify the key differences between this and the Costco-specific Yamaha TSR-700.

Get something with Dirac Live for a little more.

Also, I wouldn't trust Yamaha just based on the blatantly false advertising on this unit's capability for "restoring" information lost to compression. That is completely impossible, and they absolutely know it.

edit: Downvoters have never heard of Nyquist-Shannon.

IMO, just don't plan to use this to run a full theater room. The only problem you'd have with not having an external amp is really jacking hte volume. The receiver will go into protection if the internal amps start overheating. That said, you can listen at pretty high volumes with no issue

I would either get the Marantz Cinema series that just came out or wait for the 2023 models from other brands.

I am not sure if this statement makes any sense " One thing you might want to consider about this if you're running a full 7.2 setup is that the front channels are bi-amped so it's not a true 7.2 system." did you mean to say subwoofer channels and not front channels ?

I think that once you are in this price range you want to try to at least get pre-amp outs for atmos height channels.
