Something, not me, has been pausing my alerts

For more than a week something has been pausing my alerts. I have only one alert, for Front Page alerts. Since before Thanksgiving I sometimes do not get alerts (absolutely none) and when I look at the alert it is paused. I set it back to resumed and then I get alerts. This has happened at least four times.
There is something else happening that I doubt is relevant. I am using McAffee for antivirus and Google is constantly saying that SlickDeals alerts are suspicious. I sure do not understand how that can be related to getting the alert set to paused, but that is the only thing that is different.
