Going to grab two. I know it's dumb, but I'm going to sell my two 4K 2nd gens, because I want to be able to use the new Apple Music Sing [apple.com] karaoke feature (requires 3rd gen) and also have Matter Thread support [macrumors.com] for future smart home plans (requires this Ethernet + WiFi 3rd gen).

I did not care at all for the apple eco system, but now that I am part of it (because of pressure from my better half) this product is essential for me.

I didn't know how much the little things mattered until I bought this. Keep in mind I am coming from a 4-5 year old Roku. It's fast, super responsive, my airpods max are recognized immediately...the iphone pairs seamlessly as a controller and keyboard if needed.

I am an avid UFC fan, and the 10s rewind feature on the apple TV is leagues ahead of anything my old Roku offered. I'm OCD about missing the little nuances or rewatching the last 10 seconds so this was a godsend for me. I would watch on my computer in my office chair rather than relaxing on the couch on my TV, because of the response times and I just grew accustomed to it without realizing what I was missing.

Didn't know how much I needed this...I hate that I like it so much

Ah yes, you're right. I forgot that it's just within the latest 2022 3rd generation where only the 128GB has Thread support and the 64GB does not.

I can pretty much echo every sentiment here, ha! The Apple TV 4Ks just work so damn well.

Another note: I have Channels DVR setup for my parents who still watch a lot of network TV. The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max that I had in their living room was having all sorts of issues with live streaming, recorded playback, etc. Switched to an Apple TV 4K 3rd gen and zero issues, now.

i have both the 2022 4k (128 and 64) and 2x2021 64. I notice no difference between the two in terms of speed. I never told my wife i updated them lol and she hasnt even said anything. If i play games, i noticed the 2022 is much faster, so that is somewhere youll notice. Matter is cool to some people, but i think the vast majority it isnt.

For my purposes, this device was significantly faster for me than last year's 4k TV. The last one could not properly decode most of my HEVC (.h265) or dolby vision movies. I was about to buy new versions on sale but got this thing instead and it decodes pretty much everything perfectly. It's a shame there is no USB port but I assume apple does that because they don't want people jailbreaking this thing too much. It has basically the SOC of an iphone 14 inside whereas previous models used ipad/iphone chips that were at least 3 years old.

I think this thing is pretty much future proof at this point.
