This is almost certainly the best overall piano in this price range. It really stands alone especially considering it comes with a stand and bench. There is the P45 but its much older technology and feels like a toy in comparison. You're going to have to jump in price to the Yamaha P125A, Kawai Es120, Kawai Es110 to have much of a comparison.

It gets even better if you start researching its midi capabilities and plan to hook it up to a computer and use piano plugins. Which will sound light years better than the onboard sounds. This has 3 step sensors instead of 2 that comes on almost every other piano under $1000. The midi curves are also much more updated in comparison to say the p45. Pianoteq Stage is now on the iPad now so you necessarily don't even need a computer anymore. Quite the combo for the price. The sound would rival or beat digital pianos even in the $5000 range.

It is quite difficult to push down the keys for beginners in comparison to other budget pianos. But that just means it's more like a real grand piano and will likely give you better touch control in the long run. It did for me. In the roland app you can change the sensitivity to light or super light which helps.
Yearly sale is on, if you'd like a heavier touch piano action, this is the go to entry point. this or the korg lp380.

If you can get out and try a few at the store, that's best.

I personally like the 380 a bit more, since it's got the key cover.

You'll need too get the upgraded metal pedal for this separately, the aftermarket ones do not have half pedaling, but you don't really need that for digital pianos, but if you want the function the official roland pedal is available but pretty expensive.

Both the lp380 and this roland fp10 piano use Steinway samples as the base sound.
Thats a $2200 piano with Yamaha's best keybed out of the 3 they make. Of course its better but most people arent going to easily find one for $500

The Casio px s-3000 has a major flaw with the action. That's why they are trying to unload it so cheap. The black keys are weighted lighter than the white keys.

I saw this item earlier today and haven't played piano since high school but it sounded so amazing I was tempted to just buy it. That's my 2 cents.

How is this piano compared to Casio PX-870? I was able to get the Casio one for $699 in walnut finish and thinking if I should return it for this one or not.

I was looking at this for my son since he's been taking piano for a year now and needs something better than the unweighted Casio keyboard we originally got. It seems pretty nice, but ended up buying my neighbors older digital piano - a Casio CDP-230R. At $150 it seems like a major step up from what he was using, even if it is 6-7 years old.

Actually bought the s3000 after watching the review.
I don't think the difference can be perceived by anyone but a professional pianist. and i was specifically looking for the difference.

the issues is (and i am an amateur so keep that in mind), the keys are levers, so the weight of the key depend on where you press it. i argue that with my very amateurish finger, playing sharps vs flats on different part of the key matters more than the key weight itself.

I ended up buying a Yamaha Arius ydp 181 from a private seller for 500 bucks. And I would say that that is definitely Superior to this. If I were you I would look for a used Yamaha Arius YDP-181 or 184

The Casio 870 is a much nicer piano than this Roland and for the price you paid I would stick with that one. I wish I had snagged it at that price. It kind of depends on what features you prefer though. The Roland has bluetooth and the Casio does not. Roland tends to have a heavier action than Casio pianos, some people prefer it and think it is more realistic, but other people think it is too heavy. This Roland is very entry level while the Casio 870 is a flagship model.
