I love these due to no more lost straws, compared to the other style of bottles.
these have been the best cups, and whenever they are < $8 i buy as many as possible. the metal ones work better, but i love having a bunch of tops and bottoms that kids can mix and match.
this particular cup design?... we already have, and we named it Doughnut Lord (happened to be watching Sonic the Hedgehog while drinking out of it the first time)
If you ever get mold, reach out to Contigo support. They have lifetime guarantee. I've gotten so many replacements due to mold build up for a different model. Simple pictures of the issue, the bottle manufacturing date, and some basic information. Can't say enough about the customer service.
That being said: I won't use milk or dairy through them. The problem isn't mold, the problem is that if one gets lost and the diary turns, it is difficult-impossible to clean. Water or juice is fine though.
Used them for 7 years. Still in good shape.

The manufacturer says you can, I say you can, and my personal experience shows that you can. But as I said above I top-shelf dishwash them (all parts), using a Dishwasher Basket for the straws and lids, and just put the cup-part in like any other cup face-down.
PS - Plus their warranty also covers dishwasher use.
